Why do I pee in my cage?

Izzy on Behavior - Mon, November 26 2007

My mommy wants to know why I pee in my cage? She got me a new cage, and yes it is a little bigger. Maybe that is why I started to pee in my cage. I never done this before. Is there any suggestions for my mommy? Maybe to put my food and water in the cage? Who knows!

Probably shouldn't put food and water in the cage. The cage is obviously way too big now; they say it should barely be big enough for them to turn around...they should fit in there nice and snug, like a cave. If she has room to move to the back and pee and then won't be laying in it....its too big! Put a small laundry basket in it to fill in space, or get a cage separator (its cage material, like the cage, and is like a partition)...

Ditto Rex. You're crate is too big.

I used to do this too as a pup. It may have to do with what the others have said, the cage may be too big. It may sound mean, but we aren't supposed to have much room in there. As pups, we don't really care about messing ourselves, but as we grow older and more mature (and it takes longer with some than others!) we start associating that urine and feces with a feeling of disgust and that is how we learn to hold it. Stay strong, Izzy's mom, it will get better!!!
