Puppy Mills exposed

Cassie on Laws - Sun, November 25 2007

For those who can, please tune into channel 13 Monday night to watch the special they are running on puppy mills. My mom checked out the link on their website and hopefully it will be a real eye opener for those who may be thinking of purchasing a puppy for someone for Christmas. Because my mom works with a rescue group, we will definitely be tuned in to see what they have to say!

We've been waiting so long for this moment! I'm so excited! So watching it...

Unfortunately, I won't be able to watch it. It would be REALLY nice if they'd show stories like this at 6pm for those of us who have to be in to work at a really early hour (4am). There's no way I'm staying up just to watch TV at 11pm and the VCR timer doesn't work so I can't even record it. Bleah.

I wish they were airing this piece on the earlier news instead of the 11PM, but at least they are doing it. I imagine they will have a link to the video on their website after it airs. There was also a 1/2 page color ad in this morning's front section of the Star. 'Bout time somebody exposes these greedy b@st@rds.

WTHR seems to run a "new" story first at 11pm, then the next day at noon. So, for those of you who can't see it late, hopefully you'll catch it the next day. This is just what I've noticed... I can't WAIT to see this and hopefully people will see what cute pet store puppies have to go through.

My mom gets up at 4:30 am to feed all us four-legged kids. She said she is going to risk being tired at work all day to catch this. The more we can get the word out there about these horrible places, the better for all fur-kids!

Don't forget to check out the petition on HSUS website on Puppy Mills. See my posting for a link.

My mommy is friends with a lady whose husband is a photographer for WTHR (award-winning photographer, may I add!). So mommy got a little scoop on the story-- and let's just say that she never shops at this store....*whew*

I think it is great the news is running a story like this as people need to be educated. In fact, my mom and I were talking this weekend and I have a hunch both of my dogs are from puppy mills ... no concrete evidence just a feeling. Heck, they are Puggles. I got Petey before Puggles were popular and I got him from a "middle man" in Greenwood. Apparently, Petey was bred in Ohio by an Amish guy. Then a year later, I got Abby out of the paper from an elderly woman who could not care for her. The woman gave me Abby's papers. She got her from Passpets in Castleton and they got her from the same Amish breeder in Ohio. In looking at Petey and Abby's papers ... they have the same Pug dad, but different Beagle moms. Sounds interesting, huh? Now I feel guilty as I have "supported" the problem. But now I know and will go to the Humane Society in the future. Live and learn I guess.

Education is certainly the key to this. I know puppies are very cute and loveable. But I don't know of anyone that would advocate that cute puppy's parents being treated worse than livestock. These are living breathing beings and should be treated with respect as God's creatures. Please help spread the word and let's get these crazy puppy mills shut down. I really hate that the Amish have gotten so heavily into this. I always felt like they were such nice decent people and this has really tainted my image of them. It's becoming so popular among them because it's a cheap way for them to make unlimited $$$. Sad sad story.
