i have a client that is sadly, in hospice currently. she is 90 years old, the poor lady is not going to live much longer. her family has her cocker spaniel, but they also have two english cockers themself, plus a son who has a sussex spaniel that lives there currently. their home was built so that their elderly mother could have her own "apartment" in the middle of the home, and that is where this cocker lives. she is about ten years old, black spayed female. she retired from showing (can't remember if she was a CH or not, but had been bred before they adopted her)and was adopted by the elderly woman, after her other cocker died. i have groomed this family's dogs for as long as i have been grooming (almost 18 years!) and i just want to try to help them best i can. they cannot keep this dog, as they have their maximum, plus, she doesn't stay with them, she is alone in the apartment, and just gets let out, fed, that is about it. the family has been taking care of their mother for several months now, so this dog has been having to live alone all this time. they called cocker rescue...they won't take her (because of her age, i believe) and they also called the breeder/kennel where she came from, and they cannot take her, as they have their maximum now, too. the family doesn't know where to turn, i told them i'd get with my contacts in rescue, hopefully by posting this here on indy paws, maybe we can find jenna a good home. she is crate trained, i've never heard her make a sound, either. she is VERY nice, i don't think you could make this dog bite or growl at you. she is very used to being groomed and messed with. she's spayed, i believe up to date on shots. the lady who had her fed her WAY too much, and the poor thing was grossly obese. thankfully, since the family has had her the last few months, they have gotten a dramatic amount of weight off her. (they have been feeding her canidae, with proper amounts) she looks like a normal cocker spaniel now. they are going to take pics of her, and e-mail them to me, so i hope to have pics of her soon. i groomed her today. the only issue she has is that she needs a dental, and the family cannot afford to do this, because she will need some teeth extracted. if they can get the $$, they will do the dental. other than the teeth issue, i think this dog could make a wonderful companion for someone, maybe someone with a low key lifestyle, and not overly hyper dogs. (their english cockers are totally spazzo, but she has been fine with the other family dogs which are shihtzus. i would advise an introduction, but i've never seen this dog lift a lip to another dog)anyhow, if anyone reading this is interested in jenna, or knows someone who might be interested, please contact me. thanks!
