BSL Stinks!

Nideya on My Blog - Wed, May 30 2007

Mom says to give a shout out to let everyone know that Mayor Peterson is trying to ban Pit Bulls again! This also means any bully breed or mix of bully would be banned in Marion County.
If they ban me...where am I going to live? Why is the Mayor trying to ban me? I would never hurt anyone and I know you guys out there all feel the same.
Mom says to tell your moms and dads to write or email the mayor and the city council members to see if we can stop this since it's so unfair! If they ban bullies...another breed will just end up on the hit list next!
Here are the links to email the politicians about not supporting BSL:

The media sensationalizes these pit bull dog attacks! A story about a vicious poodle won't sell! The mayor is acting out of others' fears & ignorance. Unfortunately there are sooooo many irresponsible pit owners, they have given the pit a bad reputation! It is much easier to go after the breed than the owners. It is a very sad thing & I honestly don't know what the answer could be! As an animal lover, my heart breaks for pits. As a parent, the irresponsibility of these owners that let their pits run loose & have not raised them properly scares the hell out of me. I certainly don't want my children to be attacked! Most of those speaking out are doing so out of fear. The media is counting on that fear to support their stories. I can only imagine how you feel. I don't think the ban is the answer however in some people's eyes, it's the easier fix. I think the laws should be stricter on the owners. They should be held accountable!!!!! Furthermore, anyone found to be abusing or fighting/training these poor dogs to fight, should receive a SERIOUS jail sentence & stiff fine.

Hi Nideya,
My mom was SOOO frusterated about this last night. She said that she's going to email the mayor (even though we don't live in Marion county) and let him know her feelings, too. We don't know why you're called "bully breeds" anyway....it's the owners who are cowardly bullies!

Our mama has a question. Are a lot of these attacks being done by unneutered dogs? She has always heard that male dogs are more aggressive when they are not "fixed". If that's true, and these attacks are being done by dogs that aren't "fixed", maybe the mayor should push for a more aggesive spay and neuter program? I don't know. Banning a whole breed of dogs seems kind of like something Hitler would do!

It's always the poor pitbull that takes the wrath of any dog attack story that hits the news! In the last few weeks I have heard of dog attacks occurring by dogs of different breeds, but of course when those attacks occurred they weren't so highly mentioned by the media and the breed of the dog wasn't as prevelently mentioned as when a pitbull attacks! I just don't get it considering a dog attack is a dog attack no matter what breed the dog that does it is! All responsible pet owners of pitbulls or any of the other "agressive" breeds need to take a strong stance against outlawing pitbulls in Marion County. What good will a ban like that accomplish...bannishing pitbulls when there are so many that are not harmful and that are kept by responsible pet owners. My mommy will not rest until she uses every outlet out there to stick up for me and all my friends!

My mom says, without training and guidance, any dog can become a danger, not just us pit bulls! That's why I don't get out without a guardian :) It's the owners that should be held resposible! A dog that's been trained to fight or otherwise will only do what it knows should it happen to get loose,or if it's trying to protect itself! Why can't people understand?
