Why, oh why?

Stevie on Behavior - Tue, November 20 2007

I'm telling you, I need to raise the prices on my puppies by several thousand dollars, put them in tea cups with cute outfits, call them rare, register them with a bogus registry and label them as "pocketbook" or "tiny teacup."

Screw trying to maintain a breed standard, altering my pets, and charging a reasonable fee.

JUST KIDDING!

No, but seriously--these are supposed to be chihuahuas. I wonder how many of these dogs go down with hypoglycemia or die in transit?

Also, does anyone notice the puppy at the bottom of the page that appears to have a severe case of hydocephalus?

For you other breed advocates, they have your breed too! Just check out the website--and don't forget to visit the very special puppy page.

People make me sick! Get a real job! Did you see all the other breeds they have?! Seriously this is why Momma says she doesn't have a gun in the house. BUT we do have a stun gun and that is always an option!

Hahah...Strudel...mom totally agrees. I know, you can order whatever breed you want!!!! Oh, and btw, they tell you when the dogs are "generally healthy." Come on strudel, let's go into business and make some chiwinis.....and then charge $5000 for them.

UH did I miss something? If you are talking about your babies...you need to do background checks. My mom had a friend who gave a guy back his $800 CASH for his "Show Quality" Rottie puppy when he carried it out and put it in the trunk of his car!!!!!!! She got the puppy back REAL QUICK! YEAH!MOMMA'S FRIEND! (She was a Rottie owner/trainer/SHOW dog owner!)

I blame celebrities...not naming specifics...who carry those teeny itty bitty dogs around with them and then people want one of their own. They are so fragile and frail and often have health complications. It just isn't fair to them :( Good post.

That poor puppy with the big head!! Did you notice the positioning of the eyes?? Come ON. Makes me cry.

Looks like some of them come with money to pay for future health issues...

Did anyone notice that none of them look happy? They are all wide-eyed and tired-looking. Poor little puppies!

Hydrocephalus=water on the brain. Happens in humans too and they often have a larger than "normal" head. Chi's are supposed to have wide-set eyes, and most of the puppies appear to be photgraphed at around 4-6 weeks old, rather than 9-10 weeks. So, they probably look nothing like they do in the photos anymore, but still. Pisses me off to no end.

Btw--2 of Stevie's babies have "green" eyes right now. But, those will change to a nice amber/red color. The green doesn't stay unless it is a true green eye and you can tell at that age. Many dogs with light colored eyes in breeds where it is not normal are deaf anyway. And, at 4-6weeks all of Stevie's puppies fit in the palm of my hand too--it's nothing special.

But they have a "lifetime guarantee!" And they are asking up to $5,000 for these poor, wretched creatures, some of whom barely weigh a pound? Disgusting, greedy people. I wonder what happens to the ones who don't get adopted. On the other hand, you can fit 2 or 3 of them in a teacup, so they aren't taking up much space, and you probably wouldn't want to feed them too much or they wouldn't fit in a pocket.

Where is the AKC and all their big bucks when it comes to puppy mills? They should keep track (not hard in this computer age) of any dog that has more than 1 litter a year plus a lot of other stuff. I can't even look at the web site.

How sad. Poor pups. I wish the celebrities that buy their pups from there would stop and start rescuing. If they have 5K to pay for a pup, I'm sure they could rescue one from an animal shelter and make a 5K donation. Imagine how much good that would do!

Oh my gosh, that Web site is downright sick - literally makes me lose my appetite. Those puppies look so sad and scared. I agree with Crzy4Bgls - these celebs that make it glamorous to own a tiny dog or a big Pit or Rott are part of the problems. Without these loser celebs, maybe these types of sites wouldn't be as profitable.

Hey the chiweenie's are a total possibility. I still got my nuts! But mom says not for long =( I'm so sad. Mom said on top of the fact that there are already tons that needs homes, Mom said she had lots of offers but she never liked the females or contracts.

We hate puppy mills...makes mommy cry to see all those innocent pups without a loving home to grow up in. Mom got both me and my sister Reese from a co-worker who owns both our birth parents, we were loved from the moment we arrived.

Although we have the same parents we have a big size difference - no one had ANY idea I was only going to get to 3 lbs and Reese would get to 6 lbs. - so to sell a "teacup" dog is B.S. - there is no guarantee on adult size. Another co-worker got a chihuahua from a pricey east-coast breeder, the dog ended up over 10 lbs! Mom tried to explain that full blooded chihuahuas shouldn't get that big, something is wrong with that breeder's animals yet they continue to breed them!!! (bigger dogs = more puppies to sell in a litter)

And you are right all those pups look young, both Reese and I could fit in mom's palm at 6 weeks!

Wowsers.....did you see that white one with the huge ears??? My human's kid thought it was a cat!!!!! That made me very sad to see them. They must have a bazillion dogs they try to sell and charge outrages prices for! Anyone that would pay that much for a dog is just NUTS!!!!
