One Sick Lucy

Lucy the Goose on Health - Sun, November 18 2007

I have been so sick, you guys. Mom posted about my twitching, but it got worse than that. I wouldn't eat anything all day Wednesday and Thursday. I started vomiting and I had diarrhea Friday morning.

Mom came home and took me to the vet at lunch on Friday. They drew some blood and told Mom they had to keep me for observation. I was dehydrated and had lost 3 lbs since Tuesday. They pumped me full of fluids and gave me shots of antibiotics and anti-nausea medicine.

When Mom picked me up, I was pretty sorry looking. I slept in the big bed and shivered and shook all night. So, back to the vet on Saturday.

Saturday's visit was a little better. More fluids and more shots along with a prescription for antibiotic pills. They tested me for lots of stuff but all they know is that I have an infection and it isn't pancreatitis, lupus, diabetes, or Addison's disease. I slept almost all afternoon on Saturday, but I was shivering, still.

Dad called the vet before they closed and they had him come pick up some pain pills.

I am a new dog this morning. I feel good enough to bark and bite at Linus. I'm on a special dog food (Hill's Prescription Diet I/D) and I am not really drinking too much yet, but I feel better.

The vet thinks I may have an infection in my back bone. I may have gotten hurt playing with Linus or my pals at Camp Bow Wow. I get an X-ray on Monday.

Mom has been super worried and sad about all this. I keep licking her to make her feel better, but she still seems worried.

Lucy, moms just worry. It's part of their job. It's nice that you're trying to make her feel better. Good job for your mom and dad to be so diligent and concerned to take you to the vet. I hope it is just a little hiccup in your otherwise busy dog life and nothing serious...I bet Linus misses you too.

A backbone infection? I've never heard of that. I'm glad you feeling better. Just rest and remember to drink water, ok?

I hope you feel 100% soon! You know Christmas is coming and now you're sure to get lots of presents! Sometimes when I don't feel good Momma massages me all over and tells me the story of how we found eachother. Try it, it always makes me feel better.
