No eating without big ordeal!

Chalmers on Behavior - Sun, November 18 2007

Twice a day, everyday, Mom feeds us and I make a giant ordeal about it. I wait til the 2 dalmations hog their food down in 60 seconds, then I look at my full food dish and then look at them and bark. Then I take a bite and look at them and bark. I lay down by the dish and look and bark, get up and take a bite and draw this out until Mom sees that it's close to being gone and picks it up and says,"I'll save it for you, Chalmers." I am lowest in pecking order around here and this is the only control I have over making those dalmations back off and keep a distance from me. Mom says "Will you just eat, eat it Chalmers." I pick up speed if she adds extra goodies on top of it, but she won't do that often. Does anybody else make a big ordeal, {game} out of eating time?

I don't do any of that, but in the mornings I won't eat until mommy gives me hugs and kisses otherwise I just stand there and stare at my bowl.

Chalmers, you sound very entertaining! I bet if I had to compete for food, I'd be just as barkity bark bark!

As a fellow Collie, I see your dilemma, Chalmers. I too prefer to be a leisurely diner. A bite here, a bite there. No gobbling down my meals like some might. Also, the only time I like to eat is when my mom is in the house, but not moving around or in the immediate vicinity of my food. The only other animal in my house is the cat, so I don't have anyone with whom to compete for food. I'm sure if that were the case, my mom would have to find a way to serve my meals separately from other dogs. Good luck getting your fair share!
