I'm a BAD GIRL!

Miss Mona on Behavior - Fri, November 16 2007

So for the last two days I have been snacking on Taggart's litter box and my dad is LOSIN IT!!! He keeps brushing my teeth and forcing me to eat doggie breath mints. Then he caught me chewing the buttons off his jackets. He's fitting me with a straight jacket... is that a bad thing?

Such a gross habit, but i've never seen a single dog that doesn't do it! We've used baby gates in the past--now we have a door that closes the dogs off into the addition, and the cat gets free roam of the rest of the house.

I can't fit my head in the covered litterbox, but the rest of my dog sibl;ings ALL snack on"kittie krunchies".

I'm thinkin' the straight jacket thing is NOT a good thing, Miss Mona. BUT being called a "bad girl" may be a little harsh, sweetie. Maybe you need some chewies that can be all yours and you can chew to your little heart's content.

From what I understand, there are lots of dogs who like the litter box droppings. You're not a bad girl!!! Talk to Kirby...he loves to eat poop!!!

We all love poop too! But, mommy finally got feed up and cleared off a counter spot in the laundry room and put the litter box up there where we can't reach.
She feeds Otto up there too, because his food just tastes better than ours.

The only way we have found to deal with it is to make the litter box as inaccessible as possible to the dogs. It is such a hard wired and rewarding behavior that you are unlikely to cure her of it. We have one of the automatic litter boxes that scoops 10 minutes after the cat leaves it. We mostly keep the door to the bathroom shut when the dogs are loose in the house, and the cats go up and scratch on the door or sit outside of it when they need to use it. If you yell at her it's only going to make her afraid of you. It is very unlikely to stop the behavior.

I have yet to have a dinner date with the kitty crunchies, but mommy told me that her little sister tried them once when she was about two.
They must taste great if so many people are snacking on them.

Maybe your dad could elevate the litter box, so the cats could still jump up to use it, but it's too high for you to snack on. That would keep dad happy and eliminate the temptation for you.

Mmm, kitty poop. You're a normal doggie, Miss Mona. I happen to be a poop conisseur.

Ewww! don't like poop - and I'm afraid of our kitties so I've never even tried. Like Colton, I wouldn't be able to get my head in there anyway...my dog sis Darby used to eat poop but not anymore, Mom says she just kinda outgrew the habit. Even she never tried the "kitty krunchies". Guess we are unusual since we don't...sounds like everyone else thinks it's yummy!
