I'm grounded again.

Zeek on Behavior - Fri, November 16 2007

I had been doing really well, but Mom's mad at me. I peed on the carpet again. She's so mad because I'm three years old, and she knows there's nothing wrong with me. She found it when she came home on her lunch hour, just before she had to go back. I got gated into the kitchen and she didn't even give me a cookie before she left. When she got home, she gave me a good talking to. She told me she loved me, but that peeing in the house was unacceptable. It freaks Dad out (he's not coming back until New Year's weekend, but Mom opened her big mouth and told him last night-so much for it being our little secret!). I also did it last week while he was here. He let me out, and I turned around, came right back in, and peed in the middle of the living room. He told Mom it was a good thing she was there or else I would have spent all night outside. I love Dad, but there's no way Mom would ever have any part of that. The carpet was shot before I got here, but Dad says that's not the point. "You just can't have a dog that pees in the house, period," Dad says (well, pees wasn't exactly his first choice of words, but this is a family forum and young pups' eyes don't need to see that). Mom said this is the deal: I no longer have free reign of the house while she's gone. It's back to Gateland in the kitchen. As long as it's not raining, I go out four times a day for 10 minutes each, when we get up, before she goes to work, on her lunch hour and when she gets home at night. She won't try it before she goes to bed anymore, because I just want to go to bed. I'm an early bird and I totally poop out. I'm so bad now that as soon as Mom turns the TV off at night, she doesn't even have to say, "let's go nigh-night." I head straight to bed. She said that she loves me and that today is a new day. Mom asked me why I did it when I'd been so good. She doesn't understand that I was upset because I couldn't run in and out anymore. She used to leave the back door open and I would go in and out to my heart's content. Now she's giving me some line about how she can't afford to heat the outdoors. Whatever. She needs to because it's freaking cold out there, and even though I tolerate my coat she bought, I don't want to keep putting it on and taking it off. We'll just have to see how this goes.

Well...we live in crateland while mom is gone, so we understand. You only have to go out 4 times a day??? Wow! That's impressive. We probably go out 4 times from the time mom gets home from work until she goes to bed. Hahaha...although Stevie and I havent' used potty pads since we were babies, mom left one on the floor in front of the door the other day by accident, and Stevie and I both used it that night while mom and dad were upstairs--shew as shocked that we remembered, but it was fine because we got it right on the pad like good girls! I guess we have to use it if it's there :)

We all have accidents. I do prefer the soft feel of carpet to pee on, too. Next time your mom shampoos the carpets, use half water and half Nature's Miracle, this will take out any smells that you keep wanting to back to. Have you been to the vet to check for a UTI? I had one and that's why I was peeing in the house. A round of antibiotics cleared me right up! I haven't peed in the house since!

Mom leaves a potty pad on the floor for me too, but I go to crateland when no one's home. I'd chew up the house.

Kirby, buddy, trust me,I'm not sick, just onery. Mom clicked on the Chem Dry ad on this site. She bought this stuff called Urine Gone, and it came with a black light. Like she emailed the Chem Dry people, they shouldn't sell black lights with urine removal products to a medical professional who watches CSI. Mom was horrified! Even after she had cleaned it all and couldn't see or smell it anymore, with all different kinds of stuff, it was still there! Black light was a bad idea, she'd been better off not knowing.
Jude, yeah, only four, but I don't pee when I go out, I just check out the yard and then come back to the door. Mom is crazy if she thinks I have to go that often. I blows her mind that I have a trucker's bladder. If it's cold out, she's seen me hold it for almost 24 hours at a time, no joke. There's been people tell Mom that I have a bladder infection if I hold it that long, but really, I'm good.
Lola and all the potty padders, Mom's thought about trying to line the entire living room with those to see if it would work. She kind of doubts it since she doesn't think I've ever seen one before. She's really in a panic about the snow this winter and is willing it not to happen..

Oh man, we totally know where you are coming from. Mom locks us in the kitchen jail when she goes to work. And now, she's even locking us up when she goes out at night. She says she can't trust us and she's tired of this (insert bad word here). Sigh.

Mommy and Daddy put me in Gateland when they leave now to. Only time I get to be free is if they are just running up the road to get food or go to grab a movie. I don't like not being able to look out the window when they are go. I like watching the cars drive by. They let me do that at the old place.

Yeah. I understand completely. Mom takes me out like 10 times per day probably and I still can't figure it out 100%! I know that when we go outside that means potty, and I do potty outside, but I have such a small bladder that when I have to go, I have to go! I even go in my crate. My crate is small too...just big enough for me to stand up, turn around, and lay down basically. She doesn't know why I do it since I'm 5 months old and most dogs don't "go" in their crate! Mom started putting a puppy pad down in her walk-in closet (which is where I spend the day if I'm not in my crate), and I'm smart and use that when I have to go. She still takes me outside as much as she can, but the puppy pad is there in case she loses track of time.

Maybe your momma should try giving you a little incentive when you do go outside, just to reinforce the behavior you already learned? I may just be learning, but I feel so proud when I potty outside because mommy yells "What a good girl!" so all the neighbors can hear and gets me really excited when she says "Who's gonna get a treat?"
To top it all off, I get a bacon treat (Beggin' Strips, my favorite), just for going outside!
If she already /is/ giving you treats for pottying outside, well, maybe you're just forgetting, or it's an accident, or you really hate the cold. (like me.)

Anyways, good luck. Just remember you're not a bad boy. It was an accident and you would never do anything to make your mommy mad on purpose, right?
