Warning about dog food - IAMS

Roxy Roo on Nutrition - Tue, May 29 2007

As with any good pet owner you're probably concerned about your pet's health and the quality of their food. However, you might not always think about how companies determine what goes into pet food -- especially when it's not organic. Companies test their products on animals to see if they are safe or not. One of the biggest cruelest testers is IAMS (owned by P&G).

To be fair, this is what IAMS (with the help of PR and legal teams) has to say:

Whether Iams is cruel to animals or not we can't know for sure. But it actually is cruel to OUR pets to feed them Iams. Even though it is considered a "premium" brand, it really isn't. Have you read the label? Or the labels of any of the "designer" pet foods (science diet, eukanuba, etc.)? They are full of grains, fillers, preservatives, etc. Think about it...why would a carnivore like a cat or dog eat corn meal? They are created to eat meat. We feed our 3 cats and 1 dog an all natural, grain free, chemical free, diet. That type of food is pretty expensive some places but the most affordable I have found is at www.mypetcarnivore.com
They are a local company and all their product comes from family owned farms. We really really need to start getting our pets away from ALL
commercial pet foods so we don't have to worry if it is on a recall list or whatever.

I stopped allowing P&G products in my house about 3 years ago when I found out about some of the things they do to animals in testing.
