My mom is crying at the moment.. a friend of hers sent her an article ( http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071115/ap_on_re_la_am_ca/puerto_rico_pet_massacres ) about the horrible treatment of pets in a place called Puerto Rico. I'm wondering if there isn't something that could be done. Mom says it's an island that's very pretty, but apparently not if you're an animal. The article says they instated a law about pets in the "projects", saying people living there couldn't have any, then sent companies out to confiscate the animals, that were supposed to be sent to shelters for euthanasia or adoption.. none of them made it. They got injected with a sedative and pitched off a bridge, or killed in fields and ditches. If I could cry, I would. I guess I'll just sit here by my mom and lick her until she feels a little better. Does anyone know of any action in progress to help this problem? There is no program on the island for spay/neuter.. how very sad!
I didn't want to read about this, but stumbled onto it on another website. It seems to me that Vets Without Borders needs to be established for places like this, to do spay/neuters and TNR's. Man"kind" at its very worst in Puerto Rico.
