Well if it makes you feel any better, the only phases my dogs fully understand are "time to eat" and "let's get a treat." Actually, they respond to sit and go potty pretty well too, but it's all about the food. Just always be consistent in everything you do while training. Gee, I think I should follow my own advice. :)
That whole STAY thing is hard for us, but it is possible to master. You just have to do it in baby steps. Make the stay command last no more than 1 or 2 seconds at first. If you get up, your mom quietly picks you up and positions you in the exact same place you just were supposed to be staying at. It is important that she not overreact and yell or give the command again without placing you back. Otherwise you will think you are in control, and she will be mad. Once you have mastered STAY for a second or 2 and have gotten rewards for not breaking the stay, your mom can put you on a little longer stay and continue the process. I don't think that humans are very patient, but they have to be if we are going to learn this command! You can do it, Bella, because you will be handsomely rewarded for your diligence. Hold out for great treats.
