Suffering a loss...

Diva on Grief - Tue, May 29 2007

My daddy lost his father this past weekend and I just don't know what to do to make him feel better. At first I tried to just act like my playful self...which means run to my nearest toy, pick it up, and throw it at him....but that didn't seem to get his attention. I tried to sit on his lap and lick his face and he really didn't like that either. Finally, I just decided it was best to sit by him on the couch and not make a peep (just to let him know that I was there for him to cuddle with if he wanted). Is there anything else that mommy & I should do to make him feel better? I know we can't change what has happened, but we really want to relieve him of, at least, some of his sorrow.

I think just sitting next to him & letting him know you are there is best. When Mom is sad, I sit right next to her, but dont bug her. She usually ends up hugging me as hard as she can.. Im a big guy, I cant handle being squished if it makes her feel better.

My mama lost her mom about a year before she got me. she was still really sad about it. From the moment I arrived at her house, I just tried to make myself indispensable. I gave mama love, love, love. She calls me her "angel from heaven" because I was such a good boy. Love, Teddy. P.S. Tell your daddy we're very sorry!

I lost my grandma a few years ago. Everybody was so sad and I didn't really understand what happened. I just knew she wasn't on the couch anymore. I loved to snuggle with her and she was gone. Mom and Grandpa were really sad. I just hung around and gave kisses when they needed them. I did get to kiss my grandma goodbye too so that was nice. I think about her a lot and I lie on the couch and remember her. Please take care of your dad. He needs you now more than ever. Just think, you'll see Grandpa again at the Rainbow Bridge. I can't wait to see Grandma and lick her even though she doesn't like licking much.
