Koa on Behavior - Mon, November 05 2007

Hello fellow friends.. I've been told over and over that I have a problem with talking to much. My mommies constantly tell me that I need to stop "barking". Why can't they see that I'm just trying to communicate with my sisters (the cats) I'm a very active little guy and when I want something or I'm playing I like to let everyone know how much fun I'm having. My Moms keep telling me that I need to stop and sometimes they put me in time out. I'm quite while on time out but once they let me back I'm barking again. Do you have any advice?? I really don't like to make my mommies upset...

Tell them that it's a "terrier thing". We are high energy tenacious dogs. It's in our genes.

You could try a citronella bark collar. It delivers a spray of citronella when the dog barks--dogs don't like the smell. Mom used one on me because I would go outside and bark/scream at the squirrels compulsively and foam at the mouth. The collar kept me quieter and I wouldn't get so anxious about those tree rats.

OH! Koa my friend, welcome to the barking Terrier club. I happen to be the president of this club in my house. I have TONS of things to say - especially to those who toss marshmellows at me!

No advise here - I hear lots of "no barks" but I still do when it's important.
