Bones

Jesse on Health - Thu, November 01 2007

I have seen a bunch of posts lately talking about bones. It appears a lot of people are paying 4, 5, or 6 bucks for bones. Can that be right? For one bone? We get meaty knucklebones for $1.38, femurs for about a buck, HUGE buffalo femurs for $1.50, and TWO lamb femurs for under 2 dollars. Do some of you folks really pay that much for bones or is there something I am missing here? Are these dinosaur bones you are talking about or something?

I pay $5 or $6 for the knucklebones I give my dogs. Where do you get yours? I've never seen them that cheap!

Me neither... I was happy as heck to get them 1/2 price for a little over $2.

Dad must have been screwed. He bought his bones for $300, but it was for a class. I must say I like to drag around the patella and medial cuneiform. Dad says, "NO!" and chases me every time. He he ha ha. Bone hide and seek is fun!!

I can get raw bones at Kroger very cheap. BUT sometimes we do buy the "other" bones. We KNOW that you raw feed, but please don't insult those who prefer one kind of bone over the other. I agree that $5 is a lot for a bone, but that may be what some prefer. Raw bones are messy but my dogs love them. They only get them outside. Inside bones do cost a bit more, but that's the way we do it.

Oh, I get it now. Yes, raw bones from the butcher are much cheaper, but also ALOT messier. Like at Kirby's house, those are our outside bones. We get "treated"(I guess that's what you call them???) at the local farm store and we pay anywhere from $4-7 for them. We can keep these inside an allow them to chew on them whenever they want. I haven't noticed that one does any better job at keeping their teeth cleaned than the other, so we usually get the ones that we can use indoors.

Oh, I see! The ones I buy aren't very messy. My dogs chew them in the house on the carpet. Boomer, you cracked mom up! She's never thought of a cat dragging around a bone!

Doesn't surprise me that Boomer would drag bones around... I drag all sorts of things around the house. I am then pen-hiding king! I also like lids. Especially milk carton lids, they're so much fun to play with.

Jesse,

Where exactly do you get the bones? Alf would really enjoy something like this and with his stomach of steel, could probably handle it.

YES, please tell my mom where you get these bones!!! My JAWS OF DEATH can handle them....bring on the giant bones

That is funny Boomer. We get all our bones (and most everything else) from My Pet Carnivore. www.mypetcarnivore.com Sue runs the place. 317-373-4111 Thanks everyone for clearing it up for me. I had no idea there were "inside" and "outside" bones. Jesse eats everything indoors.

I am totally confused about indoor bones and outdoor bones and messy bones and butcher bones and store bought bones and dinosaur bones. I feel like I'm reading about the Bubba Gump Bone Company.

Jesse's owner, there is no need to private message me to "calm down".

Gosh, Kirby. We didn't know you were calmed up!

I'll have to say, I am confused too about all the different kinds of bones. I give my dog rawhides and I know they are expensive unless you go to Sam's Club. But I also know they are not the safest so I keep an eye on my dogs when they chew them. Now I can't have anything messy because I have cream-colored carpet, but what specific bones would you recommend for my puggles?
