Ouch!

Mommy took me to an outdoor work function on Friday. I had a great time! There were so many people that wanted to pet me and give me treats. Mommy even got me the pig ear off of the hog they had roasted for the people. It was delicious!
I had just finished my pig ear and was enjoying some shade and water when a friendly greyhound approached me. I was sniffing her when her great dane brother came up and attacked me. Luckily, there was a crowd of people and someone pulled the big bully off of me before I got hurt.I was scared and crying because mommy couldn't do anything to get the big dog off of me even though she had ahold of my leash. Later, mommy took me to get a cookie and let me know it would all be okay.
The other dog's mom came up and apologized right after the fight and explained that the great dane was attacked as a puppy and is always on the defense. My mommy explained that I am well socialized because I go to daycare and I think everyone just wants to play with me.
How can mommy keep me from a situation like that again?

Thank goodness nothing like that has ever happened to me. I am so sensitive and friendly, I would be really, really upset if it did. Just remember all dogs are not bad. Are you sure the Great Dane wasn't after the pig ear and not you?

That Dane was not properly socialized and should not have been out in an area with other strange dogs.
Please have your mom check you THOROUGHLY all around your fur if the dog got a bite on you -- you may have a tender cut that is stuffed up with fur and it could get infected.

Oh, Mason, you were so brave, I don't know what I would have done. I sure hope you're all right. I'm very shy. Gosh, just the idea scares me.

Aww, sorry about that dude. I was kinda attacked as a puppy by a standard Schnauzer. He was off leash, I wasn't. I just wanted to say hi, so I sniffed him and he charged at me and bit me on my face!! Meanie!! I don't like big dogs to this day!!
