Etiquette for changing Vets?

Maverick on Health - Mon, October 29 2007

Is there an etiquette for changing vets or should we just go ahead and change?

First off why are you changing!
Second...If your vet is afraid of you...then Change!
You spooked me when I came on this post...You so look my Sister who has crossed over! But then I realized you headband was too short!

Good question, we've only changed vets twice. Once when ours retired and once when we moved. If you are not happy with your current vet, don't hesitate to change. Obviously you are going to need your records for the new vet, but the old one doesn't need to know why you need them.

Well... I feel like every time I leave the vet's office, I leave with more questions than what I initially came in with. I think he's not very personable and most of the time it is his assistants explaining to me why the vet prescribed a medicine, etc. If anyone can recommend a vet on the Southside, please do so.

I changed vets about 3 years ago when we got Rebel. It had to do with a situation with ear mites that ended up with all 3 dogs with ear mites that took 2 months to clear up, it's a long story....anyway, we just started going to the new vet and he contacted our other vet to get all the records. we never gave a reason and the old vet never asked for one. We are all much happier now.

I just make the change. If I am not satisfied with the quality of service, I move on. Since getting my dogs, I have gone to three different vets. I've been really happy with my current vet and hopefully I'm there to stay. I just make sure I save all my paperwork.

I'm glad I've saved all of the paperwork then. I think we'll be trying a new vet soon.
