100% true story good for Halloween

Blitzen on My Blog - Mon, October 29 2007

I don't know how many of you will believe this but it's all true. Mom has always wondered how I could have made it to the horse farm from the puppy mill by myself. Then it was amazing that I ended up in a rescue that her friend has. Then mom happened to be looking at Petfinder and saw me, etc etc. When they first got me, I wouldn't make eye contact and was limp as a rag. It took quite some time to get me up and going. So that's another reason mom has always wondered how it happened. Now she knows.......

Mom here:
Shortly after we got Blitzen, I would hear toenails clicking on the bathroom floor only to turn around and see nothing. No dogs anywhere. When I would go look for them, they would still be asleep in bed or somewhere like that. At the time, we only had Chase and Blitzen. I experienced this quite a few times but didn't tell my husband. One night, we were lying in bed and he rolled over and turned the lights back on. He said that he must have forgotten to put the boys in their crates because Blitzen was scratching on the side of the bed. Once the lights were on, we realized they were both securely locked in their crates but Blitzen was very wheezy. We put him in bed with us and went to sleep. My husband thought he was had imagined it and I didn't tell him about the phantom dog noises in the bathroom. One night, hubby turned the lights on because he said the dogs had gotten in bed with us. Once again, they were securely locked in their crates. He swore that one of them was just cuddling up to his leg. Keep in mind that we were both wide awake when these things happened. Finally I told him about the nail clicking noises and other strange sounds I have heard. We began calling the ghost dog Blitzen's grandma since we're pretty sure his mom is still at the mill. Hubby has experienced the scratching on the bed a few more times and each time Blitzen needed something. We feel that this ghost dog is the one that guided Blitzen on his journey from the mill and into our home. When I told the rescue's founder about it, she wasn't too surprised. They had all wondered how such a small sickly dog had made it as well. This is a dog that will run if the baby gate gets too close to him. You usually have to wait for him to come completely through it and away from the gate before you can shut it. Pam also said that they have a dog like this that seemed to have a spirit guide to help it find them.
Since then, I've experienced the nails clicking on the bathroom and kitchen floors. I have seen the blinds move and balls roll when there are no dogs around. I've even seen her a few times myself. The funny thing is that the dogs see her as well. All three of them were straining at the baby gate one day wanting out into the living room. Once I let them out, they all ran over to the other baby gate with their tails wagging. Blitzen was very obnoxious about wanting into the computer room(and that's so not his personality). I finally opened the baby gate and he ran into the computer room. I can only guess that they were all seeing grandma and he wanted to be with her. When I went into the computer room, he was just lying by the desk.
The funniest thing that's happened was done to my hubby one night. For whatever reason, Grandma likes to sleep on his side of the bed as do all the flesh and blood dogs. One night he began complaining about all the dogs in the bed. I told him that there were 3, same as usual. He said No, there were 6. Dayzee was between us, Blitzen was by me and Chase was by his head. BUT, there was 1 on his right side by his feet, 1 on his feet, and 1 farther up by his right leg. I did have to tell Grandma that she's welcome to sleep in the big bed but that her friends have to sleep elsewhere. She was pretty quiet after that for awhile but is back in full force now. She's the best dog we have. No noise, no mess, no barking and no cost. So that's the tale of Blitzen's Grandma as we call her. I've always been very sensitive to things like this so it's not too surprising that I would notice them. I've actually seen my ex's Grandma's ghost after she was killed on my birthday(and I had been sleeping in her bed). I have a friend that was killed years ago that still hangs around and watches over me. I am surprised by my husband though. He is very grounded and has never had another experience like this that I know of. I had not mentioned anything to him before he had his first few experiences. So take comfort knowing that your animals may very well be watching over you. Just keep an open mind and heart.

wow -- that would freak my hubby out... he's all into the ghost shows on TV.

My kitty Squirty passed away 1 year to the day of my Cocker Spaniel Sache and that day, I felt my cocker was there to guide her to the bridge. That night, when I woke up on the couch, I truly felt that I saw my kitty sitting next to me with my Cocker laying on my legs --- both of them comforting me since I had lost them both so close together.

Odd -- bit frightening -- but lots of comfort and peace...

That's an awesome story! How cool! I've had a few odd little things occur here or there, but nothing like this.

Allie's mom here...I can certainly attest to the fact that not only have things of that nature happened before when my sis is around...but she's not one to exaggerate about things either. I don't have that 'sensitivity' to things otherworldly...but I believe in them! I DO think angels watch over us...why not our four=legged friends too?! Say hi to grandma for me, Blitz! =}

That is such a wonderful thing for you to experience. Animals know so much more about what's really going on, and people have to be open to their experiences. What a wonderful gift that is now happening for your husband, too. I only had something like that happen once. We lived in rural Brown County, and my husband worked in downtown Indy. He had stayed in town late to meet with some old friends from high school, so the kids and I had already gone to bed. All of a sudden I heard 3 very loud thumps on my front door, like someone knocking very intensely. We had 5 dogs at the time, and just as the knocking started they all ran to the door, barking and jumping like crazy. I was a little reluctant to go to the door, but felt like the dogs would be of some protection if there was somebody out there. When I got to the door, the dogs were still slavering and barking loudly, but there was no one there. I mean they were CRAZY, like I had never seen any of them act before. I opened the door and sent them out, and they ran around intently sniffing the ground just around the front door, nowhere else. They finally decided there was nothing there, and we all went back to bed. About 5-10 minutes later my husband called (no cell phones in those days) and said he had been involved in an accident in my brand new car which was now totaled. He said he was basically okay, as was the other guy who came speeding through the light and hit him broadside, and could I please come and get him. I bundled the kids in the car and we drove up. On the way back, he was relating how the accident had happened, and how scared he was at the point of impact. He said he just kept thinking "I want to be home. I want to be home." The car clock had stopped at the point of impact, and the time on it coincided perfectly with the time I had seen on the clock when the mysterious thumping came at the door, and the dogs had gone crazy. I know it had to have been him, and the dogs must have known too. It was as though he had just teleported from the car to the front door, and began banging. The dogs had not found any scent that they were interested in except right at the front door. They had seen, heard, felt or whatever, his presence and the danger he was in. It still gives me goosebumps as I think about it.
