"Hybrid" breeds

Ms Moxie on Breeds - Sun, October 28 2007

Don't remember how I got to a site discussing hybrid dogs. At least this site doesn't claim that they are "designer dogs" or even a breed. This is just another bogus registry trying to legitimize selling mixed breed dogs for big bucks. I love mixed breeds. Don't get me wrong. The healthiest and some of the smartest dogs I've had have been mixed breeds. But I loved them for what they were, not agonized over what they weren't. Specifically-not registered with no background or even breed. Instead I embraced their good nature, healthiness, and all round great "doggieness". Now this club is registering mixed breeds so that you will know what breeds are in your dog. Unfortunately, this is just another scam on the public. I'm sure this will lead to even more indiscriminate breeding and puppy mills. It's even cheaper to have mixed breed parents and then give them a fancy name and charge big bucks for their offspring. The really funny thing about this is that someone has taken the time to make up names for all these mixed breed dogs. I wish I had a job like that:-)I have to say that many of the names sound obscene. I'm not sure I would want to brag about my registered Cockamo or Eskijack. I like the fact that they are very emphatic that these are not BREEDS but if you click on the hybrid's name, there is a link on that page where you can find breeders of that particular hybrid. Hmmmmmm, if it's not a breed, how can they be breeders?????? Enjoy reading the crazy names they've come up with.

WHHHAATTT???!!! I guess I'm a GERMOYTE! Sounds like a disease! I'm a mix breed or Hybrid if that's what you want to call it. Part German Shepherd, part coyote! I'm not a registered breed...BUT I AM THE MOST LOVING, LOYAL DOG AROUND! AND I AM GRATEFUL THAT I WAS RESCUED AND NOT KILLED BECAUSE OF MY "OTHER" HALF! Mom had a Full Blooded Registered GS when she got me...she didn't care if I came with papers...she loved me because of how I was! She wants another GS, she doesn't care if it has papers and a lineage as long as her arm, all she cares about is that it is as loving and as loyal as my sister Sam was! Sorry, got carried away there...papers don't mean anything to mom, it's just that Sam came with lineage and papers! I didn't except a receipt for the animal rescue! And mom worships the ground I walk on!

You're so right about Cockamo sounding obscene!! It's like a X-rated version of Elmo! I'm just cracking up. That site is ridiculous, and I shouldn't be laughing, but I can't get over the name Cockamo.

Apparently I'm not a purebred Wasset after all. According to this site, I'm a Basschshund. I can't even pronounce that! And this dog doesn't look anything like me.

Mom says she sees neither Dachshund nor Basset in this puppy although he's very cute. What a crock! I can't believe there's actually a registry like this. Why can't people just love their dogs? Why do they have to make up some silly goofus "breed" name for them so they can tell people that they have a registered Poocan? These names are cracking me up. They sound like obscene words, diseases, or prehistoric animals. Check out the Carnauzer and the Toxirn. No thanks. I'll just stick to plain old Wasset.

Hey look. No more wondering what I am. I must be a "Taco Terrier". Mom is laughing so hard I think she just fell off her chair! I can't believe they would actually "name" a dog that. He does look a lot like me though. http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/tacoterrier.htm
I like the names Chestie and Crustie. How gross would that be to tell someone you have a dog like that?

Oh geez....papers mean absolutly nothing when it comes to purebred dogs. I can't even stress that enough. The only thing that matters in the sense of a "purebred" are the healthy, conformationally sound dogs (usually champions of something) in the line that can produce a good specimen for the breed. As far as the rest goes, who cares? Do you all know that it is against AKC policy for breeders to "charge more" for a dog with "papers." If you see this, run far far far far far away...it's considered unethical by AKC.

Nobody can ever figure out what I am; a greyhound/westie mix? A labradoodle? A IrishWolfhound/setter? Who cares, anyway? I'm myself!

Well heck...now I'm upset. Neither me nor my brother are a "recognized" hybrids, DARN! Now I guess you are just going to have to call me what I am, a MUTT.(nothing wrong with being a mutt)

I am a Cocker-Pug, and my mom embraces that, although I am not registered. You have to think about this though, how certain are you that ANY dog is a FULL breed?
How do you know that the Labs and the Huskies that we know and love today, were not a mixture of 2 different dogs in the past, somewhere way way back, just something to think about.
