"Long tail Yorkie" is a gimmick. A Yorkie is a Yorkie. And there are some in rescue organizations, just waiting for a loving home. No reputable breeder would advertise a "long tail Yorkie." They are hoping that someone naive will pay more for their "designer dog" not realizing that they are not dealing with a reputable breeder. Please encourage her to take her time doing some research before she pays a lot of money for a dog that undoubtedly comes from inferior breeding and may have health and temperament problems.
Doggerel's right. Yorkshire terriers' tails are docked at a very young age. This practice began as a way to avoid getting the excess hair around the base of the tail soiled. Even though we have groomers now to keep our Yorkies' bums clean, breeders still have their newborn puppies' tails docked to suit AKC standards. Basically, your friend is falling for a breeder who is falsely advertising her un-docked Yorkies as some special breed, most likely in an attempt to make more money. I encourage your friend to find a more reputable breeder or adopt from a shelter. Any breeder who would market dogs in this way is NOT a breeder I would trust in the slightest.
