I know this has already been mentioned but I got mine done at the Indy Animal Control for $10. No appointment needed just go in any time they are open. That gets you registered locally. They give you a form to fill out and send in to the microchip service they use to register you nationally. I forget how much it was but it was not exspensive and very well worth it. Although I think you should get microchipped anyways, it makes it kinda bad that you won't keep a collar on. Without it and your microchip tag an individual that finds you might not be aware of microchipping or where to take you to get checked. At least if you did end up in a shelter or rescue most all of those places will check. I have heard of groups offering free microchip days but I am not sure who.
Indy Pit Crew holds microchip clinics. Cost is $10 and that is for registration also. They are an awesome group doing an awesome job. Their website is www.indypitcrew.org
