Microchips

Basil on Shopping - Tue, October 23 2007

Mom is looking for the cheapest place to get a microchip for me. Many of you know I am an indoor/outdoor cat. Mom has tried to keep me inside with no luck. I am too quick for her. ;) She has tried to put a collar on me with a tag but I usually can get rid of it in a day. My doctor wants to charge mom $50 for the microchip but she knows it must be cheaper some where else. Any suggestions?

I have a "bring me home" tag on my collar so if i get lost they can go to the web site and put my tag # in and it tells them who my mom is, and how to get a hold of her.

Animal control is $10 and HSI is $20...Also, you can check around for Microchip clinics to see if local places are having discounted or free prices.

I know this has already been mentioned but I got mine done at the Indy Animal Control for $10. No appointment needed just go in any time they are open. That gets you registered locally. They give you a form to fill out and send in to the microchip service they use to register you nationally. I forget how much it was but it was not exspensive and very well worth it. Although I think you should get microchipped anyways, it makes it kinda bad that you won't keep a collar on. Without it and your microchip tag an individual that finds you might not be aware of microchipping or where to take you to get checked. At least if you did end up in a shelter or rescue most all of those places will check. I have heard of groups offering free microchip days but I am not sure who.

When I was adopted from ACC the chip was included, but mom took Charlie down there to be chipped a few weeks later... it was $10 for the chip, and to register nationally was around $12. So $22 total. About the same as HSI if ACC is a lot closer to you.

I heard they cause cancer and are not safe! I would get a bring me home collar!
