Hi, Bella. I had my surgery last December, and my mom worried about me, too. She was careful to follow all the pre and post op instructions from the vet and everything was fine. Our vet told Mom to put me in my crate when I got home from surgery so that I wouldn't roam in the night, and I think that helped. She was careful not to get my incision wet and she made sure I didn't pull at my stitches. The first night and next morning were the toughest, but I was just fine by the 2nd night. Good luck!
Aaawww--don't be scared. My mom and I went through the same thing years ago (I'm six and half years old now). My mom was worried sick too. She started to cry when they picked me up. It is all very routine for the vets and these days the incision is very small. Just follow the vet's instructions when you get home. I wasn't allowed to jump or run around for a couple of days...not a big deal. I got nice and spoiled with all kinds of special treatment long after I was all healed up. Try to get your mom to calm down, it'll help you calm down. You'll be home before you know it. All our best!
I never really worried when Abby was spayed and Petey was neutered. Am I a bad owner? I just figured that vets do spay/neuter operations all the time so they have to be good at it. Plus, maybe it was because I knew I was doing the right thing for my dogs' health. Abby's stitches freaked me out though as I was worried, with her crazy attitude, that she would bust them open. However, she got a little crazy and nothing bad happened. I am sure Bella will be fine.
My mom is always very scared anytime any of us has surgery. She totally understands how your mom feels. It will be OK though. I got spayed and I came through just fine! My sister Minnie had to have eye surgery, and she was fine. My brother Butch had to have two surgeries to remove a tumor from his leg, and he is OLD! He was fine too. It always makes my mom feel better to hear stories of other dogs, so I thought I'd share our stories with you. I hope it will make your mom feel better!
Sarah, I understand your thinking...I feel like the vet went to school for everything s/he does, so I feel like my dogs are in very good hands. But there is a small paranoid part of me that knows that every procedure carries risks...what if my dog is that one statistic, etc, etc. Bella's mom...it's going to be okay. This will give you guys an opportunity to bond and snuggle.
