Dog Dreams

Dixie LuLu on My Blog - Tue, October 09 2007

Hi IndyPaws Pet Parents!!! Dixie's Mom has a question, or at lest wants to get your opinion on something.

Do you think dogs dream?

I think they do. Both Dixie and Waylon twitch, make noise of all sorts, make facial expressions, and move their legs around when they sleep. I think they are reacting to dreams they are having. Do you? Or do you think it is just muscle reflexes? Do you think they can remember some of their dreams like we do?

Do you think they understand they are asleep and just dreaming? Or do they think that "Poof! I was there and then Poof! again now I am here once I open my eyes"???

I don't know if they have any concept of "dreams" or "sleep". Just wanted to see what you thought or if anyone had info on this.

Oh yeah...I think they definatley dream. Alf twitches and makes funny noises all the time...I just snore very loudly and Jude seems to be a fairly light sleeper. I've heard dogs literally bark in their sleep...it's so funny.

I dream lots...mostly of chasing squirrels or getting treats. But Momma says I twitch and groan in my sleep. Once I even sat up and barked! She says it's really funny. :-)

Even though the question was directed to dogs, I can say as a cat, I do dream. Usually it's me, running through the field in slow motion to meet my red velvet mousie running towards me, also in slow motion. Usually I awake right before I clasp mousie into my mouth. Sigh. However, I do find that I also have night/daymares. These usually take the form of me, being trapped in my carrier, slowly decending into a tub of water! Man I hate being trapped! Water is ever worse! Combine the two makes for one hellish fright. Then I usually wake up and run to Dad who holds me until I go back to sleep. Oh well, those are my dreams.

I dream too. I twitch and move my leg like I'm running. Sometimes, I growl. One time Mama says I had a bad dream because I was asleep and then I jumped up and was looking around for something. Kinda Freaky

i notice it with Shadow while she is on her back. It is so funny to watch her move and jump, all while asleep!

Sorry Boomer. We didn't mean to leave you kitties out. Mom has just never seen any actions out of Cooter or any of her cats that indicated they were having dreams. It would make sense that if dogs do you cats would. Glad you cleared that up with us. May you and your red mousie have many joyful nights and I hope at some point you are united in your dream.
