Messing with schedules

Wiggles on Behavior - Tue, October 09 2007

Hi all! Wiggle's mom here. I am wanting to know how much my baby would be affected if I was to get a later schedule at work. I work in a call center so our schedules change frequently. My boyfriends schedule is 11-8 and I am currently working the first shift. My question is that I am going to go to a later shift if possible so that my boyfriend and I can be on a more similar schedule. Right now I am pretty much going to bed as he is getting home from work. We are up together for about an hour and Wiggles usually will go back to bed with me.

My question is if we were both on a similar schedule will that affect her? She never gets up with me in the morning she will lay in bed with Adam and then get mad when it is time to get up because she is still tired. So I am not worried about not getting up with her, the only concern is that I get home from work at 4 now and she is basically only in the cage for about 5-6 hours at the most. If I get a shift that is more like Adam's she would be in the cage longer (8-9 hours) which I know she is able to do.

Is this going to be a mess or will she be more happy in the long run that she has more mommy and daddy time every night?

Waylon is usually in his cage about 9 hours. I don't crate Dixie but she has to go just as long without being able to go outside. It shouldn't effect Wiggles too much. Just change her feeding schedule accordingly so that she can keep bodily functions under control. This is what seems to work for us, no matter what time it is. I get up, Waylon and Dixie get up and go out for a few minutes. Usually they just pee real fast cause they are more interested in getting back inside in a big hurry cause they know it is breakfast time. I feed everyone and then about an hour later, just before I leave they go out again. I try to make this for a little longer period than the first. That gives them time to have their BM and get a little play time in before being cooped up all day. They go out staight away when I get home. Come in, go out again, this time usually for a longer period to play. They eat dinner about 2 hours before bed and then go out one last time right before we go to bed. I don't think dogs, or at least my two, can really tell time. They don't understand the differerance between 5am and 5pm they just know the routine. I think Wiggles will adjust just fine.
