Nathan's New Book Calls for an End to the Killing of Homeless Animals in Shelters.
Nathan J. Winograd, the leader of the national No Kill movement to end the killing of millions of animals in our nation's animal shelters every year, is coming to Indianapolis to promote his new book, Redemption: The Myth of Pet Overpopulation and the No Kill Revolution in America. Winograd, attorney turned pet guru whose work has been featured in Reader's Digest, USA Today, Metropolitan Home, the Washington Post, and in local newspapers, radio and television around the country, has written the definitive book on animal sheltering in the United States which calls for an end to the killing of homeless dogs and cats. Over 4.5 million animals are needlessly killed in our nation's animal shelters every year; a tragedy which Winograd says can and should be stopped.
"Redemption tells the story of animal sheltering in the United States - a movement that was born of compassion and then lost its way," explains Winograd, "But there is hope. Over the last decade, several progressive communities have put into place a series of revolutionary No Kill programs and services that has dramatically reduced the killing in their shelters. Their success proves that there is a blueprint for ending the killing, and that it is incumbent upon animal lovers nationwide to ensure that it is implemented in every shelter in our country." The book is receiving critical acclaim from animal lovers and activists coast to coast, who are hailing it as "ground-breaking," "powerful," "the bible of the No Kill movement," and "a must-read for anyone who cares about animals."
Move to ACT is sponsoring Winograd's book signing, which will include a 90-minute multi-media presentation about the book and the future of the No Kill movement. "Our animal shelters are not the safe havens we want to believe they are," says Warren Patitz, President and co-founder of Move to ACT. "The animal welfare community is tired of the killing of innocent, adoptable animals - over 15,000 in 2006 for Indianapolis alone.
There is no cost to attend the presentation, but attendees can purchase a copy of Winograd's new book as part of the author book-signing following the presentation.
