I've become a bedwetter...

Daisy on Behavior - Sun, October 07 2007

Mom's looking for ideas on how to get me to stop pottying on HER bed! She took me to the doctor to make sure it wasn't medical. I had a little infection but that's been cleared up for some time. I started this bad habit a few months ago and it was usually when Mom was gone. My sister, Pansy, and I have to stay in the kitchen now while Mom isn't home. Tonight, I pottied on Mom's bed while she WAS HOME. She didn't catch me but boy was she mad when she found the evidence! I have a good life, am pretty spoiled, and know I'm the princess in the house. Mom thinks I'm just being defiant when I don't get my way...like when I want to play ball and she's too busy. I was crate trained as a puppy but I don't sleep in there because I started pottying in my own crate. I've got this defiance thing down!! Mom sure would like to hear from anyone with ideas. I can't stay in the crate all day because Mom is gone for too many hours and can't come home at lunchtime so please don't suggest that. Thanks for listening.

Sounds like a pack issue. For some reason you aren't giving mom the respect of pack leader. Some basic obendience training and regular walks might help to correct this problem. This we re-establish in your mind that she is the pack leader and not you. Unfortunately we do need boundries to keep everything in balance. Maybe you should try the crate again. It might have been you were peeing in the crate before because of your infection. Usually we don't like to do that if we can help it. Good luck.

Will she use a pee-pad? If you gate her in the kitchen, will she eliminate on the pee-pad while your gone during the day? As for being at home, I just simply would keep her out of the bedroom. close the door. She needs some off limit areas--it's your house, not hers and you decide where she gets to go. She's not "marking" is she? There's a difference between just peeing on the bed because you have to pee and it looks like a good place and marking the bed.
