brands of sweepers????

Hound Girl on Shopping - Sat, October 06 2007

ok, i'm going to take my time on sweeper shopping, LOL. i looked online, those dysons are $500!!!!!!!! OMG!!!! are they really worth that? on another board i read, folks say yes, and the one called the "animal" dyson is best. well, anyhow, i would like all of your input on vacuums!! this will help me decide on which kind to get. should i get a dyson? or is there anything that is comparable, that will last? my animals shed a lot, and although most of my home has hardwoods, my finished basement has carpets, and that is where the animals spend a lot of their time. (especially the cats, and joe!)i also have asthma, so i need something that will not shoot dust everywhere, like the one out on the lawn, LOL.

i personally think the dyson animal is great. when we got ours we vacuumed the floor with our old vac and then took the animal out. the animal sucked up about one inch of dust/dirt in addition to a giant furball of fur that was still in the carpet.

i will say, it is pricey...but there are no bags to deal with, no HEPA filters to change. i think the suction is stronger than with any other vac i've owned. but honestly, we bought the dyson after we got married and put a bunch of our Target giftcards together (i think we only paid about $150 out of pocket).

Another Dyson Animal owner here. I have five cats and dream of going hardwood one day... But until then, I needed something that could really suck the litter and fur out of the carpet. I LOVE the mini-brush attachment, it really comes in handy when sweeping the stairs and removing fur from furniture (Animal model is the only one that comes with it). I got mine for $400 with a 20% off coupon from Linens'n'Things. Those coupons now exclude Dyson products though.

well, i'm leaning more and more towards a dyson. i wonder if they go on sale much?

Unfortunately, Dysons rarely go on sale. However, Target recently had an offer where if you purchased one, you'd get a $100 gift card. Great if you shop there often, not so good if you don't.

We have a Dyson Animal and love it! It has never lost suction--just like the ad says. The ease of emptying out the canister is great. My dad has asthma and mom recently got an e-mail that said the Dyson has been approved by the allergy & asthma society because it does not shoot the dust, etc back into the air. Yes, $549 is a lot for a vacuum, but this one is well worth it.

We are also looking into a Dyson to replace the old vacuum. My family has awful luck with vacuums, but we've heard such great things about the Dyson that we want to try it out. I've never heard one complaint about it!

We have a Dyson Animal as well!! I LOVE IT! With 6 furkids, it really takes care of the "tumble weed". The little mini brush is awesome for the stairs. I'd say it was worth the moola. We got ours from Linens N' Things when they had an offer that is you bought a Dyson, they gave you a $50 gift card for the store.

Animal Dyson??? Sounds like something you'd use on the dog if they'd let ya. Gosh, my mom's just got a vacuum named after one of my corgipalooza pals, Hoover.

K, do we have to start up a fund for you to get your Dyson? Or maybe we can rent out our vacs for people to use...like that one designer purse website where you pay a monthly fee and get to pick out any of the "celebrity" worthy expensive purses to use.

The ChemDry folks all use Dysons and swear by them...but they bought reconditioned ones online...check that out! I bought mine at the vacuum store and have been very happy with it..Its a Rykaar (sp?) and has that 99% hepa filter...so it doesn't shoot dirt right back out in the exhaust. You have to put a new bag in very often, though, like when its only 1/2 full, they say.

YAY! We have a crapo vacuum at our house, but heck, it does the job. Mom wishes she could gamble, but she only does it with pennies when her firends and her play Texas Hold 'Em! It looks fun, but I get in the way, Ho hummmm.

We also have the "Purple Beast" aka the Dyson Animal and we LOVE it. We've had ours for about 4 years now and can't complain. I recommend them to ALL pet owners!

Sounds like the Dyson people are winning out but you'll never get my Rainbow away from me. It's also great for cleaning the air for those with allergies. Once that hair and dander hit the water of the Rainbow it will never float into the air again. I have a $500 sweeper but I'll take the Rainbow (more expensive yet) any day. It is the only sweeper that I have used on my hardwoods that doesn't just bounce stuff around. It has a hardwood attachment that works great! It's a little more inconvenient to use but "it don't get no better" than Rainbow.

my mom actually has a rainbow sweeper, and i agree, it's one awesome sweeper, but the whole water part is a PIA to me, just because of all the different areas i'd have to sweep.

My mom got a Dyson awhile back and it's great! She got it at Bed, Bath, and Beyond and used the 20% coupon that comes in the mail every now and then. Hopefully, they haven't changed their coupons to exclude Dyson vacs because that was a BIG savings.

My vote is for Dyson. I've got a heavy shedder too and it works great. THe only difference between the purple "animal" Dyson and the yellow model under that is $100 and some of the attachments. I bought the yellow and picked up some of the attachments seperately (some of them are useless for me).
