Attack of the Puff Ball

Ernest T on My Blog - Fri, September 21 2007

I went to my Grandma's yesterday. Two of my favorite bi-ped cousins were there and things were going great. We were in the house when I noticed something in the hallway so being the nosy Basset that I am, I went to check it out. All the sudden it puffs up, and gets much taller and makes his hissing sound at me. All the sudden this giant claw comes at me. I almost fell over myself trying to run away. I fell down because I couldn't get any traction on the floor. I went and hid under the table at Mama's feet. She (Mama) was cracking up. It seems this was my first encounter with a cat. Mama said it was a baby Himalayan about 3 mths old but I'm telling you, it was HUGE puff of fur with giant claws. I was on my guard the rest of the day. I saw it. It was hiding, waiting to attack again.

I just can't believe Mama. She didn't even try to save me or comfort me. She was just laughing. Then she told my Mamaw and Papaw. I was so embarrassed. I want to think I'm big and brave.

Mama says we are going back today. I'm going to be ready this time. Arrroooo-ETB (from under the table)

Oh, T...you are such a hoot! Believe it or not, we had a cat in the house a few years ago....be brave, young man! I have to admit though, if the cat came after me, my mama would pick me up and scold the cat (that was the best part)! Watch those claws, they'll only get worse as the cat gets older. You might try and make friends now while the thing is small. Let us know how your second encounter goes.

I think the puff ball showed remarkable restraint, Mr. Basset. Mind your manners. Denny Crane

Hey, T! Those cats are just big play toys for us of the canine persuasion. All you do is get a running start and run right at them as fast as you can. Any cat in its right mind will take off and the chase is on. They are fast & can climb high so you have to be faster. Once you catch them just sit on their head so they can't get away. Of course, you will probably get yelled at by Mom but it's worth it.

Linus and I have found that the trick is to lay down on top of kitties. It doesn't hurt the ones we know, and they can't claw at you that way. Mom makes up get off of the kitties, but she is usually laughing when she's making us move.

I hid the first time I met a kitty, too, so don't feel bad.

Wow, that sounds like a nightmare! Maybe if you find some of its food and eat it all, you might learn to think like one of them. Gotta think like a ninja (and eat like one)to become one.

Day 2- Well, It was still puffy but it stayed hid most of the day EXCEPT when I caught it sniffing on my new Peanut Butter Chewies. I moved it quickly and it scattered. I'm going to do my best to make friends but it's all freaky when it grows and puffs.

Day 2 went okay. It stayed hidden most of the day except one time and it did the puffy thing again but I stood my ground especially when I saw her sniffing on my new chewie. She moved fast when she saw me coming.
