I have to diet!

Shadow on Nutrition - Fri, September 21 2007

Oh no! The vet told mom I was too heavy and she has to get me to lose weight! Mom is so sad cause she was not trying to hurt me but she now has to cut out my treats and measure the amount of food I get. Dad has to walk me more than ever (I hate this part. For those daschunds with the lovely figures please let my mom know how you do it!

aw, shadow! You don't look overweight! But usually this vet person knows what he is talking about. Maybe if you like to chase toys or balls your humans could get you some new ones and exercise in the house!

The least obvious way to do it is to switch to a low cal food. Then it doesn't seem like your parents are taking all your food away. They can also add green beans to your food. It gives you more to eat without any more calories or fat. Mom said I looked like I weighed 11 pounds yesterday(I guess that's a bad thing). Grandpa doesn't see the food line on the scooper very good so he just puts in enough to cover the bottom of the bowl. I'm lazy too unless somebody puts my leash on and walks me, it ain't happening on its own. Blitzen tried swimming this summer but he didn't like it that much. Your family can also give you baby carrots instead of dog treats. They're yummy and again, no calories or fat to speak of. Good luck. Maybe we should have a dieter's support group on here.

Mom says the green beans should be frozen NOT CANNED.

Well I am not a daschund but my vet also told me I needed to diet so my mom had to start measuring my food and cut back on the table scraps. It's tough, but in the long run, I would rather live a longer, healthier life! Good luck!

I know what you mean, Shadow...but you look perfect to me. Anyway, I think it's our short legs that makes us look somewhat heavy. Anyway, that's my story, and I'm stickin' to it!!!!!

We only get to eat 1/3 cup of kibble twice a day to keep our girlish figures and run fast in agility. She cut it down a little bit from the recommended amount so she could give us lots of training treats and not worry about the F word (fat).

At Lulu's annual exam in April the vet told me she needed to lose 2.5 pounds. She is now at her target weight of 13.5 pounds. I just cut back her food a tiny bit and cut way back on treats.

Well I have tasted green beans and carrots and mom has cut back on my food. I hate walking, but she keeps trying. It is going to be very hard because I like to give mom the sad eye look and she just melts. But she said she wants to keep me healthy forever so I guess I am dieting!

My momma says she wishes I had that problem. She can't keep weight on me because I'm always moving!
