What a crock! How long have you lived there and how long has the "racism" policy been in place? Maybe you're "grandfathered in" meaning that you had Gunner before the policy was written. I would lie like a rug to keep my dog. Thankfully I don't have an issue. In my first apartment, 11 years ago, I did lie and have a cat under the radar for 7 months that I never told them about (I did claim him in my next one, the first one had bad management, so I was "sticking it to the man" any way I could). I don't see the point if it's just a 15 pound cat (he was a big un!) and didn't cause any damage. They're supposed to paint and clean the carpets anyway. Sorry, got off on a tangent there. Zeek's Mom
We lie about our baby all the time. We don't even mention she is a pit mix because she really is more of a mutt than anything. Pit bull is the only thing that is recognizable about her. I usually say she is a mix of something. Our neighborhood Association isn't too strict on dog breeds but we still don't want any neighbors to have fuel in case we make them mad.
Plus there is a really scary Rottweiler that tried to get my dog on the other side of the neighborhood. So I am not too worried..but we have a vet that can disprove the pit bull theory for us at any time! Always good to have a friend on your side when it comes to your babies!
Mom would have done the same thing!!!! I think it is totaly STUPID to ban a dog just because of it's breed. Mom and dad almost had to pay extra on their homeowner's insurance when they got me because I am a "mastiff mix" and they are considered a bully breed.(at least to our insurance company) So mom started calling me a "golden retriever mix" (which isn't a lie, I am half golden) and everything is fine now. I'm the SAME dog...ugh!! Anyway, mom says she totally understands about the little white lie.
I have had Gunner for over 1 1/2 years. And he's in my home. Not the parks home I's the one that pays the tax on it. I have never even walked him in the park befor. But now that he is on my file's. You bet I will walk him here now. I will have my poop bag in hand and walk happly with him at my side.
I hate those stupid breed rules! I wouldn't turn in the other people who own those breeds, but I would definitely forge an adoption contract! I would probably get one for those other 8 neighbors too, if they needed one. My grandma always said, "There's nothing wrong with a little white lie to keep peace as long as nobody gets hurt." You have to keep your baby! That's a stupid rule anyway. It probably has to do with their insurance or something. If they ever ban pit mixes in Indy, I'll move to keep Minnie. I won't give up my dogs. That's no different than asking someone to get rid of their children.
ARRRGGHH!!! More people stuck on stupid. I feel very fortunate that I don't live anywhere that someone else can tell me what kind of pet I can and can't have, and I think it is dead wrong for anyone to be able to do so, unless a person is breaking the law by letting their animal run loose or keeping it tied in the backyard all day without water. I would lie like a rug if need be, or move, or whatever it took. I think your plan with the adoption contract was an excellent one, Gunner's human, and you are obviously a responsible pet owner.
A little white lie never hurt anyone. We did that at HSI all the time--someone once wanted to adopt a "shepherd mix" and the apartment didn't allow shepherds or shepherd mixes...I told them to tell them that the dog was actaully a hound mix :) Who really knows when it comes to mix breeds--unless you genetically test them (which you can do now btw!!!), no one will ever know!
mikey is listed at my vet as a "mixed breed". i think it's fine to lie about your breed, because i think being prejudiced against any breed is wrong! i wouldn't have gave out the info of the others breaking the breed rule, though, because then you put them in the same boat you were put in. if they aren't clever as you were, then maybe they will dump off their dogs, or lose their home, and neither is a good thing. :(
Riley's Mom here...I was told that because Ry and Bog are "Running at large" the dog catcher could come and take them. I told them he better bring some reinforcements with some big guns. Nobody is taking my babies! I talked to the dog catcher later and he told me he knows I let them run loose, he's not gotten any complaints. I guess cause I work for the Police Dept. down here they turn and look the other way.
