If Collies didn't exist...

Ollie on Breeds - Mon, August 20 2007

If my mom's breed of choice (that's me) had never been developed, what kind of dog would she have? Here are the top three:

1. Clumber Spaniel
2. Newfoundland
3. Basset Hound

Anyone else have any "what if" breeds?

if bloodhounds and APBT's did not exist, i'd have :

1.giant or standard schnauzer
2.dutch shepherd
3.border collie

and, if i was old, and had to have a small dog, it would be either a miniature schnauzer, or a shih-tzu! ;o)

My mom loves German Shepherds, Labs, and Irish Wolfhounds. Although the good old American Mutt is also a favorite breed :)

Mom is partial to our "breed", Australian Cattle Dog/Papillon mixes, so she would naturally want one of each of those. But for purebreds that she has never had probably:
1. Cardigan Welsh Corgi
2. Portuguese Water Dog
3. Norwich or Norfolk Terrier

Well, I think mom's first choice would be a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and then a Clumber Spaniel then a mini long-haired dashchund. But then again, she'd also love a mutt!

Corgi, Mastiff, Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen...though the best dog my husband ever grew up with was a Shepard/Collie Mix, so if we could clone that one, he'd be the one!!

ooh... chihuahua, or mastiff, or toy poodle, or great Dane! I like dogs that are either very small (in order to fit in cute little collars, or petite clothing!), or HUGE dogs that can guard your house and look big and tough while doing so!!!! You know, little pink collar or big black spiked collar!!!

Great Dane, Corgi, or a Lab :)

I could never pick for sure. I do love English and French bulldogs though! I just sit back and let dogs come to me. Whatever the breed, sometimes one comes along that I just know I'm gonna have to take in!

Mom's choices would be a Newfoundland, Great Pyrenese or Great Dane.

Wow--this is hard. Mom is known for having the "strange" breeds where she lives and a hodgepodge at that! She is partial to 1. Bulldogs (french and English), 2. Pugs, and 3. St Bernard (and most other giant breeds) and last but not least 4. a liver spotted Dalmation. Mom has always been intrigued by Dal's but knows she doesn't have the energy to keep up with one.
