help for a indymoms dog

Sr. Gunner First Class on Health - Wed, August 08 2007

This is off of indymoms. And I was going to see if any one els would have more info I could pass along to her. To help her dog.

(I've got an 11 year old akita/shepard mix who in the last month or so has been having problems holding her bladder. She'll lay down and go to sleep and her bladder releases and she has no idea it's happened. I took her to the vet and they put her on hormones which made her very sick, so I've since cut back on the dosage. Well last night about 1am she woke me up because she was having a seizure. It was one of the scariest nights of my life. I sit up with her for most of the rest of the night and call the vet first thing (I'm a single mom with two kids at home or I would have taken her to the doggie ER last night.) THEY DON'T WANT TO SEE HER!!! The vet's office said they didn't want to see her unless she has more seizures. I'm so upset right now I can hardly see straight. Is this normal or do I need to find a new vet? If anyone can shed some light on this I'd be grateful.
Thanks Ladies.)

I'd be finding a new vet!!!!! Immediately!!!!!!! I don't know anything about seizures but I think that's awful they don't want to see her.

OMG, I'd take her to the emergency vet anyways, and tell them your own vet didn't want to see her.

I would try a new vet. The emergency clinic is very expensive. You might like Dr. Cindy Baker at the Bargersville Vet Hospital. She is very nice and reasonably priced. She is very busy and appts. fill up fast so I don't know how soon you can get her in. Some of this may just be age related. Sadly, she is starting to get up there in years for a bigger dog. I have heard of this bladder problem occurring in older dogs. Is she on any other medications? Some of the common ones used in older, large dogs for hips and arthritis will cause these bladder problems. So sorry about the distress this is causing you. Good luck.

Definitely find a new vet. We don't know where you live, but our vet in Greenfield, Dr. Shephard, is VERY nice. We all love him.
