Isabella on Behavior - Thu, August 02 2007

Today my mommy adopted a cat I'm afraid of it. My mommy thinks it was a bad idea what should I do?

Maybe you're just scared of it cuz it's new... You should try to get along. It'll probably take a few days at least.

Just hang in there, Isabella. The cat is afraid of you, too, and it will take a few days for everything to get sorted out. Just make sure your mom keeps both of you safe from one another initially, and doesn't try to make you interact with each other if you don't want to. It won't take long for things to settle down. We even play with our cats sometimes.

You two will be playing before you know it. You just have to give the cat a chance.

Just give it some time! My cat Topper is my own personal squeeky toy! I was scared of him the first time I saw him come out of the house!!!!

Shoot...we were afraid of Oreo for almost a month and vice versa!! Don't worry, give the new cat time.

Don't worry....it usually takes WEEKS for new pets to acclimate with existing pets. Do a Google search on it...they'll be fine. It helps to separate them for a couple days, so they can get used to each other's smells without stress, though. We usually keep a new cat/kitten in a bathroom for a few days and everybody smells under the door...
P.S. I think you're very cool looking!
