Wow, I hope not. Parvo is usually younger dogs or unvaccinated dogs. Some breeds like Rotties and Dobies are more prone to it as well. Symptoms-lethargy, fever, vomiting/diarhhea(often severe & bloody). They need vet attention ASAP so they don't get dehydrated) This is a highly contagious disease and a hard to kill virus. Mom lost 2 dogs to it(the second one after waiting plenty of time and cleansing everything thoroughly). Treatment is usually expensive and may or may not work depending on how sick they are. Distemper-also highly contagious and serious. Usually puppies and unvaccinated dogs. May start w/eye discharge then fever, nasal discharge, coughing, lethargy, vomiting and diarhhea. As it progresses, it leads to seizures. twitching or paralysis. If their dogs are hvaing vomiting/diarrhea they need to be seen at a vet NOW. Here is the link for emergency resources here in Indy. Let us know how they are. http://www.indiana-paw.com/resources-public.htm#emergency
Tell her to get the dogs to a vet ASAP (emergency vet) if showing the following symptoms:
***Parvo*** Parvovirus is a severe gastrointestinal disease. It initially causes weakness, depression, and lethargy. After a few days to weeks, it causes vomiting and lack of appetite. The dogs develop a very high fever. Very severe diarrhea ensues, gray in color, often with blood and tissue. Because of the vomiting and diarrhea, the dogs become very weak and dehydrated. Puppies and dogs less than two years old, may also suffer from heart disease caused by the virus, causing sudden death. ***Distemper*** The initial symptom is fever (103F to 106F), which usually peaks 3 to 6 days after infection. The fever often goes unnoticed and may peak again a few days later. Dogs may experience eye and nose discharge, depression, and loss of appetite (anorexia). After the fever, symptoms vary considerably, depending on the strain of the virus and the dog's immunity.
**** UPDATE ****
Well she just called me. She lives in Mississippi. And she told me she took them in and got some shot. She said it's a 8 in one shot. I know her dog's are brothers and they are 9 years old. And other then this shot I don't know the last time she had there shots updated. And I know where she lives there are stray dogs every where. But the county won't do any thing about it. There is no Law about your dogs running free. I do know that she said that the dogs seem to be doing better now that they have got this shot.
