In addition to posting those stickers (get enough for every door, since you don't know where the firefighters might enter) it is very important for your humans to have an evacuation plan for when they are home with you, like in the middle of the night. We have 2 hard crates, one small and one medium. If there were a fire, mom and dad would put me in the medium crate with Sydney, which I would hate, but I would do it if they told me to. Then they would try to find all 3 cats, who would be frightened and hiding, and put them in my small crate. At night the cats only have access to a couple of rooms, so there is a better chance of finding them than if they ran amok all over the house. And all the closet doors stay closed, so they couldn't sneak in there. Then mom would take the cat crate, and dad would take our crate, and they would run like hell. Well, my dad would probably be trying to grab stuff that he thinks is important like his favorite hat or something, but we would make like trees and leaf. I hope they would remember to bring some treats. Having your pet in a secure area or crate while you are gone will also increase the chances that the rescue people can find you if your humans are not home. It would be helpful to post this information about where you can be found on the stickers. As we all know pets hide from danger and people they don't know...if they are already in a designated place, they have a much better chance of survival. Glad everyone is okay, and it is very smart of you mom to think about this!
