My crate

Minnie on My Blog - Thu, July 26 2007

Mom put me in my crate and shut the door this morning!! I couldn't get out! She left me in there for 5 minutes. I cried and dug trying to get out. After I settled a bit, mom came in and let me out. I had scraped my paw and it was bleeding a little. Well, at least she felt horrible seeing that! When we got back from the vet, she put a blanket under my crate and wrapped a towel around the bars where I was digging. I think she wanted to try to protect me from myself. She put a treat in there and hid a couple under a pillow. I thought that was great, so I went in. She praised me and said how good I was. Then, she shut the door and left again!! This time for 1/2 an hour! When she got back, I was not crying or digging but I did have my crate moved about 6 inches and pulled part of that blanket into it and chewed it. That will show her to leave me! I do feel better though now. I don't seem to be following mom around as much. Mom said she feels better about me being in the crate than with Beverly, but she is still worried when she leaves me.

Maybe have her put in a kong with peanut butter that will keep you busy for longer. Big stinky Ezra used to chew up his blankets. Maybe with a kong you won't be so inclined to chew the soft stuff. Your mom is doing a good job with you!

You know what my blonde mom did?! She put me in that crate to go to PetSmart and pick up a name tag, harness (for walks) and a kong for when I'm in my crate. Well, she got the tag and the harness and completely spaced my kong! She was in such a hurry to get back and check on me. She's definitely going back tonight to get a kong.

Minnie, if you keep chewing the blankets you might end up without anything soft to lay on.

just an idea from kaiser's mom....
when kaiser was a puppy & had to be crated, he ate blankets, one after another..so, i just put a couple towels in there for a few days & he didn't seem to like to chew them as much?...maybe try a towel on top of the blanket?

sounds like you are on the right track! i forgot to mention yesterday, i have seen these plug in things that are supposed to calm pets, i forget the name, but they do sell them at for the love of dogs in irvington. i may go by there tomorrow, i'll look to see if they still have them. jasper is really bad on chewing up covers, i finally had to make him go "nekkid" in the crate, because of fear of him getting obstructions. luckily, mike and joe are fine with blankets, but since i want to keep jasper around for a long time, he gets none, LOL!
