Storm of the Century

Riley Coyote on My Blog - Thu, July 26 2007

Oh my god! I was so scared last night. It stormed something terrible! Mom was going around closing all the windows and I was hot on her heels! We couldn't even see outside cause the rain was sheeting. And the lightning was cracking so loud it hurt my ears. Then all of a sudden we were in the dark. That's when I hurt my momma...I reached out to grab her and left some pretty deep scratches in her leg. I was so upset already and when I saw the blood running down her leg it really depressed me. She grabbed a towel and wrapped it around her leg and then sat down on the floor with me and told me she wasn't mad, she knew it was an accident. But I still feel bad. Is there anybody else out there who has hurt their parents by accident? And why do storms scare me so bad?!

I think Riley is in Alabama Nemo. I haven't hurt mom except when I continually "step my 100 pound butt on her broken foot."(her words not mine) But my brother Hunter broke mom's wrist once. A few years ago, he and my other brother were in a dominance fight and mom tried to break it up...well mom stepped in between them right as Hunter was lunging at Yukon and he ended up biting mom's wrist. Luckily is was winter so mom had on a heavy coat, but he still broke her wrist. I wasn't here then, but Raven tells me that dad was REALLY mad, at mom, because mom stepped in between 2- 125 pound dogs but nobody was mad at my brothers. They were just being dogs. I'm sure your mom really loves you Riley so that's why she's not mad at you, you can't help being afraid of the storm.

Oh you poor baby! We didn't have a storm by our house, either...just rain. Isn't there a pheramone product that is supposed to calm you down? Plugs in like a night-light...check it out?

Boomer's Mom here: It's a way of life when you live with Basenjis. I've been to immediate care 3 times! That's just for the serious bites. They hate each other & seem to find ingenious ways to get together. Last fight was the worst. Female was in season so one male climbed out of front yard, went to backyard and climbed in where female & other male were. Males started fighting over female & stupid me tried to break it up. I finally got hold of one male & got him inside house. I crated other 2 dogs & then took myself to immediate care. I had a severe bite on my wrist; one of them had bitten thru my metal watch band. I later found watch in yard. I lost my thumb nail also. 4 days later I was at the hospital getting an intervenous antibiotic IV to get rid of the infection. My hand was blown up like a rubber glove. It was so fast & so traumatic I couldn't remember which one latched onto my wrist. It was my own fault though, they were just being dogs. One of them did make a trip to the vet and get his "you-know-whats" whacked off a week later.

I accidentally hurt my mom all the time. I've got some pretty gnarly claws and sometimes ... when I'm just foolin' around ... I use 'em on her. But she never gets mad either. She knows I don't mean to hurt her. And it sounds like your mom is the same. So, don't be too hard on yourself, dude. Oh, and don't worry about being scared of storms. It's no big. Next time it storms, just cuddle up with your mom and ride it out...

I was chasing a ball down the hall that my sissy threw for me. Well when I took of, my back foot pushed off of her little foot and my nails scratched her really bad. If I had tears, I would have been crying along with her. I felt SO bad. Mommy said that she could FEEL my sadness coming from me because I hurt my sis. Made mom cry, too. I sat with my sis the rest of the night. SHe kissed me and said that it was just and accident and wasn't mad. I love her!

Thanks all...I guess I'm not the only one afraid of storms. I'm doing okay now, it's sunny down here in Alabama, but our neighbor told mom that we are in the hot spot for storms. Mom had to bandage her leg. I tried to lick it before she did that, but then I guit. She had put some nasty tasting stuff on her leg before she bandaged it...nesporin?? is what she told me. Best part is that she still loves me! We crawled in to bed last night and round out the storm. Mom was holding me tight and then complained later cause I was snoring and then "poofed" and OH did it stink!

We had a mild storm last night. The wind kicked up and there was thunder and lightning, then the rain came and it rained all night! I have hurt my mom too! I tend to step on her feet. I am still very clumsey and don't know where my own four feet are! Hers always tend to be right where I need to put mine!!!

I hate storms too! I know I'm not allowed on mommy's bed, but during a lightning storm once, she found me curled up in a ball on top of her blankets. She wasn't mad though.
