Have you tried it?

Boy that walking on a leash thing is a different experience. Wouldn't be so bad if I could just do what I want, walk out front & lead the pack but NOOOOO I'm not allowed to do that. Something about heal and walk nice. I don't know. I prefer my way --- lean into the leash and walk on two back paws only.

My Mommy tries to get me to do that heal and walk stuff - so far I'm winning the battle. I like the lean and pull method just fine.

Maggies Mom here: I would think that you would both learn that the pulling on the neck doesn't feel good and you would both cooperate. Somehow it doesn't seem to be working. I'm going to have to look into some better training methods. If you cooperate you will get to go on walks more often.

Training is so important! So is the proper training collar; a pretty collar just doesn't do the trick when it comes to training...a "gentle leader" is also good, but I must say, Boston terriers probably can't wear one! hee hee...have to have a big nose like me!

When I take my mom for a walk, I try to stay beside her and behave the way she likes but sometimes I smell something delightful that I need to check out and I will quickly dart to the aroma and it usually catches mom off guard and darn near pulls her arm off. She hates it when I do that but some things I just can't resist.

Wow, Scouter, that's my favorite way to walk too!! BUT, did you read my post yesterday?! I was a good boy and didn't pull for mom. I'm 8 and maybe someday I'll get the walkin-on-the-leash thing!

I walk much better with a harness on. I have one that's padded under my front legs, so it's pretty comfy. And it doesn't keep me from jumping, jumping, jumping like a spring when I see a robin! I love my harness. Mom got it at PetSmart. Maddie has to wear a pinch collar---ha ha! She got to choose, and hated the harness so much that she would rather wear "pinchy." We both heel really well when mom has treats.

We both have a harness (little dogs shouldn't use just collars we were told) but it doesn't matter to Scouter.. she doesn't want to be where the action is - she wants to BE the action. Such a Drama Queen!

Mom's been walking me more often lately. I have a harness. I don't do too bad, but I do pull. She's talking about some kind of training class. She says I will probably be like Chase and have a private tutor! Mom knows how smart I am already!
