Any Advice for My Ashie

Gunner on Health - Sun, July 22 2007

My owner is at a loss of how she should help me want to eat. I'm a 12 1/2 year old cocker spaniel-poodle mix and I was diagnosed with chronic kidney failure in January of 2007. After getting my system flushed, I've felt as good as new. I was eating all of my special k/d bites untill about a week ago. She keeps trying to get me to eat, I even got table scraps, but I just don't want any. My Ashie decided to take me to the vet to see what was wrong and it came back that I also have severe anemia that we hope is associated with my kidneys and not something else. Does anyone have any advice for my Ashie so she can stop being sad and help me feel better?

Gunner you are super cute! I know that some of that special food just doesn't taste very good. Have mom try warming up your food in the microwave. Try heating some canned food and see if that encourages you to eat. Most of those special diets are also available as canned. Warming the food makes it smell more appealing. Give your mom snuggles to let her know she's doing the best she can for you. She could also try handfeeding you some yummies. Good luck!

Did your vet give your mom anything for your anemia? my mom is anemic and her dr. makes her take iron supplements, maybe something like that would help you feel a little better. i'm not eating so well myself right now, mom boiled some ground chicken beast w/ just a pinch of garlic powder and mixed a healthy tablespoon of that in w/ my normal food. Yum! i couldn't eat it fast enough.
