Charlie used to go outside on a harness/leash often, so I used to bathe him once a month during the warmer season. Now that he doesn't go outside, no more baths! Two of my cats (Alvin and Patches) caught ringworm from a foster. UGH!!! Bathing 5 cats twice a week for 6 weeks was NOT a fun experience. The vet did prescribe a sedative for them which helped a lot (none for me unfortunately. *sigh*). Charlie didn't need to be sedated though, he knew that by behaving he'd be done faster.
My brother and I are Himalayans, a long-haired cross between Persian and Siamese, and we do get a bath every few months,
not because we stink (we don't!) and not because we're dirty (we
groom all the time) but because a nice bath and comb-out gets rid of the excess hair. And believe me, we've got plenty of THAT.
When we were kittens, Mom bathed us every few weeks. Now we're too much to handle, and we go to a groomer. If you're indoor and short-haired and have no special skin condition, it doesn't seem necessary.
mom used to bathe us every few months, but she's just too busy since she started doing SAR a few years ago. WE DON'T MIND!!! we don't really like getting wet, although mom says we could stand a good bath right now. i'm shedding and mom thinks a bath will help. (she is a groomer) we are getting that stuff called ULTRA OIL, though, and we do seem to be shedding MUCH LESS!!! that is good! oh, BTW, pearle, every time mom sees your pic, it makes her sad, because you look JUST like our sister, powder, who died last summer.(her pic is in our profile) you're a very pretty girl. mom says she will never get another white cat, because none will be like her pretty princess. i bet you are a princess, just like she was. i can tell by that look on your face, LOL. ;o)
My dad did the craziest thing last night and bathed the neighborhood cat right in the kitchen sink. This cat, who is technically a stray but is let into 3 or more homes, is armed with front and back claws, a lot of muscle, and the urge to get away from water. But, he finished cleaning her, and the only thing she did for about 20 minutes was lick herself dry.
Yeah, my mom tried that a couple of years ago and she barely made it out alive. I think my sister, Schneider (yes, she's a girl) was the worst out of us. However, you have pretty white fur and sometimes difficult to keep clean. My older brother George (R.I.P.) was white too and sometimes he'd have this yellowish tint and mommy would bathe him then he'd be pretty again.
Every once in a while, I, kitty queen of the indoors, am subjected to the abomination known as 'bath time'. Mommy puts surgical tape on my back paws, so I can't fight back and bathes me in the tub. Last time Daddy attempted this, I bit him and put him in the hospital for a few days. It's an every few months or when Mommy and Daddy deem me to be 'funky' (of all the nerve).
I only have the B-A-T-H when I am really smelly or have extreme shedding issues that a comb won't do. However, my last bath was around Christmas time and it will probably be the last time Dad gave me a bath because I hissed, bit, and clawed him really well...more blood than water. So, since then Dad doesn't worry about my baths and no need to because I don't smell.
