Pets and unconditional love

Jazzie on My Blog - Thu, July 19 2007

Some people wonder why some people are more apalled by cruelty to animals than they are by cruelty to other humans. My opinion on this (and mind you it's my OPINION) is that pets give us unconditional love (humans don't) and pets aren't able to speak for themselves (humans are). Pets depend on us to be their voice, to make the world a safe place for them. I first came across this quote a long time ago and I absolutely love it because it couldn't be better written:

“He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion.” - author unknown

I couldnt agree with you more. When i was younger my dad would get mad cause i would ball when an animal died (on or off screen) but when it came to humans i didnt cry if it was on a movie.

That's one of the things that makes my mama so mad about this Michael Vick stuff. He is hurting animals and they can defend themselves or ask for help. They have no "voice" except for ours!

I agree. I always say with a dog, I know what I'm getting. If they don't like you, they let you know right away. None of the stab-you-in-the-back behavior humans pull! I'm just as appalled when a small child is treated cruelly. It's the fact the victims are innocent and helpless to defend themselves that always gets me. A person who will abuse an innocent, helpless being should be disposed of. That type of a person is a danger to us all. The penalties for these crimes are way too light! That is my opinion.

We agree too. That is a beautiful quote. I have a picture of Me and T with the words. I hope some day to be the person my dog thinks I am.

I love your quote and I am with you on this. We are our pets only hope sometimes, and if we don't care of them, who will? I often feel more sorry for animals than I do for humans...is that wrong?!
