Our family is worried. . .

Teddy on My Blog - Mon, July 09 2007

We are getting a little concerned when we read Pet Talk, and here's why. It seems like everyday there is a post about a lost doggie or kitty or animal (remember the one about the lost turtle?). My mama also found the cutest little mini-pin at our apartment complex last Friday. No collar, no ID tag, etc. She took him to the apartment office, and, hopefully, they found his owner. We just want EVERYONE to be safe, so we want to encourage people to get an ID tag and collar for all your pets, and check out the $10.00 microchipping on this site under "events"! What a great deal, and that way, if you get lost, they can scan you, just like groceries (heehee) to return you home to your family!

Right on Teddy! We can't talk so we need microchipping to get us home safe. Collars can be removed - chips can't.

I'm microchipped, but dogsister Annushka isn't.

I have tags on me that tells you my name, where I live, my mommy home phone and her cell phone. Mommy is going to get me microchipped. I also have my AKC ID tage on me also.

I have a collar and a microchip. One time mom found a boxer in our neighborhood with no collar (not too long after finding me). She slept overnight on our front porch! Well, it was Sunday, so mom took her to the Humane Society to see if she had a chip. She was running in front of cars on our street! They scanned her and she did have a chip! Mom called HSI a day or so later and her owner was coming to get her! We were glad she found her way home!

I think in Marion County it's required that your animal is micro-chipped. And as Bev's story has demonstrated, it does pay to be chipped!

oh yes yes Teddy, that worries me too!!! I barked about that a long time ago when my mommy found two doggies with no id tags on them. Please, everybody, just put a tag on their collar! Even if you think they'll never get out of the house without you---better to be safe than sorry, right guys? BARK

I have a tag on my collar, with my name, mom's cell phone, and our lot at jellystone. Next month I get a new tag, with grandma's address on it. Mom says when I get fixed she's going to get me a microchip too!

I had asked about the law before, Freckles, and although it says "permanent" ID, a collar seems to be considered acceptable. I have never been told by a vet or other service that chipping is required.

Good point! BOTH of our dogs came to us because they were "lost" runaways with no tags...

Yep, even horses can get microchipped even though it's different and more expensive. Everybody but me is chipped. I guess cuz mom loves me the least. That or that fact that it's pretty hard to miss a 1200 pound horse running down a street:-)
