Getting a bird is not like getting a dog ot cat, that's for sure! My mom grew up having parakeets. I can't imagine the work involved with having a big bird like you, although I think it'd be wonderful!! Those people need to be talked to!! You're a sweet bird, but if this bird isn't, they're in for a rough ride! Maybe your dad can talk to them.
I think mom is going to have to give them bird class. If they don't have the bird on the right food it won't live as long. And birds don't do good with stress. And going from a home with no kids to a home with 3 kids, pluse the move can stress a bird out. Some can die from it. And others will pull out all ther feathers.
Yes if you take good care of bird's like me we can live up to be 80 years old. So yes if you get a bird like me you better be ready to live with us the rest of your life. Most ot the time when you see a bird like us looking for a home is do to a new baby, move to where we can't live, or are mommy or daddy died. Or someone didn't know what they wore getting into by getting us. We can be very loud birds. And if you live in a town house or a Apt. They won't let you have birds like me.
i grew up with an african grey. he died a few years ago, my dad was absolutely devastated, he won't ever think of getting another bird, either. having a parrot (especially a parrot) is a LOT of work, not only the cleaning, feeding the right foods, but the time you must have to train and WORK with them. also, they need SPACE, i hate seeing them in too small cages. i hope you can educate your friends about getting one. when anyone asks me about bloodhounds, i tell them every single BAD thing i can, and if they still get one, then they can't say they weren't warned. hope it all works out.
They are getting the bird only because the ppl that have it are haveing a baby and they are giveing it away. The ppl that are going to be getting it are trying to get my mom and dad to trade there truck for the bird now. So I think they are only getting it for trading. I'm not going to give up are truck. But that is all to worng reason to get a animal. Well after they get the bird and mom gets to talk to them more about what all they have to do to take care of the bird. We are hopeing mom can talk them out of the bird. We don't want to see any worng doing done to the bird. It's not fair to the bird.
That's sad. You can never stress enough just how much care these birds take!! My mom and dad took a blue and gold macaw that needed a home. Unfortunately, they didn't know what they were getting into. She came to them in what looked like a cockatiel cage. It was way too small! When they went to buy a decent cage for her, the people at the store really opened their eyes to the care required. My mom did a good job of educating herself and taking care of the bird, but it was more involved than they thought. A friend of a friend (who knew what he was getting into) wanted the bird, so my mom gave her to him. She wouldn't have though, if the person wasn't prepared. We didn't want anyone to take her that wouldn't take good care of her. She is doing really well now. The person who took her has a lot of time to spend with her. We have gotten several positive updates on her. I hope the bird in your story has a happy ending.
Wow, my Mom just told me some other bird around here is called Mojo too. I thought only my stinky friend was called Mojo.
Sorry to hear about ppl getting a BIG BIRD when they don't know about big birds. Big Birds are lots of responsibility and cost lots of money and need good eats to be happy bird-days.
I won't live to be 80 years because I just THINK I'm a big bird, but conures can live up to 30+ years if they have nice lives.
Kinki I think you're pretty and there are lots of blue and gold macaws where mom buys my nutraberries (Bird Fever on 82nd St).
Uh oh, I gotta go, I just made a mess on the floor and must come up with an alibi before Mom gets off keyboard (which I would like to destroy....)
