What does *bump* mean?

Kirby on My Blog - Sat, June 30 2007

My mom is embarrassed to ask this question so I'll ask it for her. Sometimes she sees on a posting that someone writes *bump* as a response. What does that mean? Is it kinda like "ya I agree"? Someone please help my mom....I don't know what I'm going to do with her.

My mama doesn't know what it means either.

is it a physical bump? Like when someone writes, **shaking butt**? dunno but now I gotta know!

It means Bring Up My Post. It's basically done to move an older posting back towards the top with the newer ones. Otherwise, the older ones might get missed. So you type in bump which stands for something and now you've put a new comment on so the posting goes back as a newer post. Hope that helps!

Do you have to do anything special or just write a comment? Mommy still doesn't get it quite yet. You did a good job of explaining, Hootie, my mom is just a little slow tonight...... I'm not talking about "butt shaking", Freckles!! You're so silly!

just by typing the word bump(or anything really), it registers as a new comment and will keep the posting as a newer active one. If no one comments on your post, it moves down the line. On this site, there are over 250 pages of posts. So if you want a post to stay towards the top and not get lost, you BUMP it by typing anything in and it keeps it active. Otherwise, it's on page 238 and nobody's going to read it or comment on it. On the home page, you will see a heading for recent posts. If somebody's "bump"ed your five day old post, it will appear as a recent rather than down the line as a five day old post. Does that make sense? Sometimes, I babble too much and end up not making any sense:-)

Oh dear, how embarrassing! To think i've been shaking my butt each time someone's posted *bump* or worse yet, I've imagined those who post shakin' their thang while posting!

Oh! I didn't know *bump* meant bring up my post- I just thought it was done to bump it to the top of the list- you know, 'bump it up'.
Now I gotta shake my bunnybutt, right Freckles? Mommy shaped it last night with the trimmer so it looks GOOD...all the ladies love it! heeheee

Ok, so if I type BUMP in an old post of mine or someone elses, is that a magic word or would any word do to "reactivate" it to keep it active. The hamster in mommy's brain is gettin' tired...

Never mind, Hootie. Mom reread your explination and NOW SHE GETS IT! Glad you're patient. Sheesh. She's still on pain meds from shoulder surgery. Do the rest of you get it? That was a toughy!!
