PET INSURANCE

Jasper on Health - Wed, June 27 2007

who here has pet insurance? is it very expensive? mom saw this topic on one of her bloodhound lists, and it got her thinking. if you do have it, what companies do you use? does it really save you money in the long run? what does it cover? sorry for all the questions, but just curious! also, if you don't have pet insurance, why not, or would you if it was priced right?

Hi Jasper, My mommy looked into it but she said it didn't cover much. She acutally found the brochure waiting in line at Kroger it was by the gift cards (I guess they sell everything there)

My mom has a plan through Banfield Pet Hospital (inside Petsmart). She pays $21.95 a month. For my first year it covers all office visits, all my shots, & to get me neutered. If I get sick, it covers the office visit however treatment is extra. Heartgard & Frontline is not covered. I am pretty happy with it. Not all Petsmarts have Banfield in them. Call your local Petsmart to see if there's one close to you. I hope this helps!

I have pet insurance through VPI (petinsurance.com). I pay 29.95 for Gunner and 27.95 for Chloe plus we get 10% off for a family discount. I have my complaints but they have been pretty good. Gunner has allergies and chronic ear infections so it has been helpful. We pay the bill up front to the vet and then turn the claim in. It takes 30 days before you receive a check but I find it worth it. There is a list on-line of what they cover. We went with the Superior plan and they cover a little more for just a few extra dollars. When we got Chloe it was the first thing we did. The sooner the better! If anyone has more questions send me a private message and will get back with you. Amanda

Mom looked into it for us but it was way too expensive. Guess if you don't have as big a family as we do, it wouldn't be too bad. Tell your mom to make sure to see what all it pays. Mom got a Care Credit Card for Rowdy's chemo treatments. Mom said that's an option too.
