Disgusted

Taijah on Breeds - Sun, June 24 2007

Taijah's mom is talking in this post. Enough is enough. I am so tired of the media attacking Pit Bulls. I was looking at a news website this evening and there is a story about a man getting shot by another person over a Pit Bull dispute. If it was another breed do you really think they would have put the name in the headline or would they have just said "Dispute over a dog"??? I know I am on a soapbox right now but as a responsible owner of a loving, gentle, sweet, very well cared for Pit Bull I can't help but think the world is against us. It is heartbreaking to have to constantly defend your breed and to worry if you will be able to keep your much loved pet because of discussions of breed bans. Irresponsible dog owners need to be targeted by the media and not the breed. Sorry for rambling but I love my dog and want people to see the wonderful side of this breed. It is just so frustrating when the media only airs negative stories.

AMEN!! Shion's mom talking here and I firmly believe it is NOT the breed but the training that the owners give their dogs. And i KNOW that if it was over a Poodle, a boxer, a lab or even a golden, they would not be in the paper. I am tired of hearing how the DOG has to be put down, and the owner pays a small fine....ENOUGH!!

My mama saw that on tv, too. First of all, she knows the area where it happened very well. She used to teach in that area. Many of the people there, most likely, are probably irresponsible pet owners. There are a lot of loose dogs in that area. Secondly, you kind of get a good indication of what type of owner this guy is when he shot the man twice. The other man was trying to break up the dog fight with a ROLLING PIN! I think he was just trying to separate the dogs. That's how this pit bull's owner solves his problems, with violence, and that's probably how he treats his pitbull, with violence. Sigh. . .sadly, a lot of pit bulls are falling into the wrong hands, and so the owners who do take care of their pits and are raising them correctly, are being penalized. I don't know what the answer is, but a ban breed is not it!!!

Thank you so much for your comments. It is good to know there are people who feel the same way I do.

This guy is a classic example of giving a breed a bad name. He lets his dog attack another dog, then shoots someone for trying to break up the fight. UGH! Can we ban bad owners, Mister Mayor?

*** Of course, does anyone even know for sure it was a pit? The dog is still missing.

My thoughts exactly O'Brien.

Oh my gosh, I so totally know! This is Padme's mummie.
Padme is often mistaken for a Pit Bull, and some people will literally walk on the other side of the road when we are walking. I kind of like it. I know its wrong, but at least I know people won't mess with me.
Padme is a good doggy for us, and she is quite the protector. She is an American Bulldog.
I am so sick of hearing about Pit's and their idiot owners. I mean, its not the dogs fault, its the people who raise them.
My niece has a pit and she has 2 little kids and he is so very sweet. Its the people..not the breed.
They should start cracking down on the people who own these dogs that attack (and that can go for any breed.)
I have seen dogs almost starving because these people want some "bad" dog, its sickening.
So you give your sweet doggy and hug for me!
And does it tell you anything ,what the kind of person the owner is that he shot another man for breaking up the fight?

i saw this story on WISH TV tonight, and luckily, they didn't mention at ALL what breed it was. this was the 11:00 news, though, so if it was them you watched, earlier, maybe they got a bunch of complaints on that.

Hi Mikey's parent. I read the headlines on www.indystar.com and www.indychannel.com and they said "Pit Bull" but when I looked at wishtv.com they didn't say a breed. By the way, Mikey is ador-a-bull!

I just read the story on indystar.com and I love how they say the other two dogs are "paris hilton type dog" and an unknown breed. The pit pull was on a leash and they other two dogs were just running around the street. Then they go into detail about the pit bull that attacked the child over a year ago. Any dog that is raised wrong is capable of harming other dogs and humans. It's a shame that so many irresponsible people want to own/train/fight a specific breed. Don't ban the breed..arrest and prosecute the owners. Increase the fines/jail time for owners that bread/raise/train fighting dogs...if they ban pit bulls they will just move on to the next breed they can raise to fight.

I agree with all of the comments here. My 9 month old pit bull is the friendliest I have ever saw. He should not have to be punished for those owners who do not take the time to properly train their animals.

I feel so sorry that the bully breeds get such a bad rap...I feel like there is a hit out on you guys. I don't think most people even know how many types of bully breeds there are...for crying out loud I am a boxer and some people ask if I am a pit bull!!?? There are just too many people who don't know and who don't care to know. They just assume...and you know the saying...assuming makes an A$$ out of you and me...

My mom has been taking up for pit bulls in posts all over the place. She's disgusted with this whole thing too. The media stirs all this stuff up and doesn't even care how it affects the people and pets in our city.

I agree! What a load of crap! Take note that the pitbull was on a leash & the two little dogs were NOT!!!! ANY DOG will become aggressive & defensive if it's approached in a threatening manner!!! It's the idiot owner that shot the guy, not the dog. Or am I missing something.....if this dog can wield a gun, WOW! Pits already get blamed for their owner's stupidity, might as well blame the shootings on them too!

I feel your pain! I can't believe that they would air those stories! I mean, there is no bad dogs, just bad owners! And some people just buy pit bulls to make people think that the person owning the pit bull is strong, brave, and manly! Enough is enough, leave the pitties alone! They are just dogs, and what is wrong with that? I heard that the mayor might ban pit bulls from this city! And people love pit bulls, until they ask what breed it is. When they hear it's a pit bull, they act scared sometimes. So I think that this is like discrimination only with dogs! SAVE THE PIT BULLS!

Petition sissy talking: I makes me wanna cry sometimes thinking about all the good pits out there not knowing how much their own breed is hated. It seems like nobody cares about them anymore. Nobody knows what resposibility is anymore. It's basicly segregation. I am afraid to watch the news sometimes, wondering what I'll find on there.

There is a poster pinned up at our neighborhood pool of a lost pitbull puppy, only 1 year old!! My mom and sis are so worried about him. We HOPE and pray that some meanie didn't steal him. His name is Jackson. I'm sorry that you all have to constantly defend your sweet pets.

I agree. In England where my mom comes from, you have to put a muzzle on "dangerous" dogs. They should do that. If you don't have a muzzle on one (be it wiemeraner pit-bull or chow) you get fined. No if ands or buts about it!!
