Previcox questions

Lynn on Health - Sat, October 04 2008

I took Titus for his yearly checkup lastnight. And our vet suggested we start Titus on Previcox. I'm pretty sure back when Titus first injured his knee that vet put him on Previcox but gave strong warnings about possible liver damage. So naturally I'm leery of starting such a drug when Titus's kidney and liver enzymes are still above normal. Our new vet Dr. Herr gave me some literature about Previcox but I want to know of your experiences with it. Good, bad or otherwise please share.

Is this an anti-inflamitory? I've never heard of it.

Hi Lynn :) Sasha took Previcox for about 2 1/2 years for her arthritis. It was a wonder drug for her, if she would have a bad spell, Dr. Bob would have me increase her dosage by a half-dose to get her through it. It always helped her, and within a day she was feeling back to normal again. As long as she received her daily dose regularly, her arthritis pain was kept under control. She did not, however, have liver or kidney problems. I would be cautious about that, too. It's certainly worth trying, as long as your vet monitors his enzymes regularly and if there is any change, they become more elevated, then you would have to take him off of it and try something different. What I do know is that is was a wonder drug for Sashi. She never had liver/kidney issues, but her heart was enlarged and that's what finally caused her to pass. Good luck. xoxoxo D

Debbie, from what little I've read about Previcox it's an NSAID used for treating arthitis.
