Chubble trouble, help!

Lynn on Activities - Fri, September 26 2008

Ok, some of you know that Izzy's knickname is Chubble because she's my little chub of trouble. I suspect that she's sprayed inside my Mom's new armchair recliner. The inside of the chair has become her new favorite place. And now the chairs taken on a smell. While not clearly a urine stink, it's an unpleasent smell none the less. Chubble's gonna need all nine of her lives if I can't clean up this chair before Mom gets home from vacation. Unfortuneatly I can't just go buy Mom a new chair.
I'm about to go all CSI in trying to find and clean up this mess. Has anyone ever used one of those black light pet stain locator things? If you have please let me know what it's called and where you bought it.

I don't know what to clean it with other than a product that is specifically for pet odor removal, but you might want to use Feloway (sp) or another feline pheromone spray to help discourage more urination there in the future

I know someone who got cat wee out of her floorboards by using a baking soda/peroxide mixture -- 1/4c baking soda + 1qt peroxide + 1tsp dish soap. Mixture is only good for the day it's combined, and it's also good for getting rid of skunk spray (just in case you need to know).

Pet stain locator thing = black light. Can be purchased for about $20 at PetSmart, or much cheaper at a do-it-yourself type of hardware store. I believe it's just a regular black light... they just like to give it a name and charge extra at a pet store.

Feliaway is the pheromone spray, only place I've seen it is at a Pet supply store though... not cheap, but has worked well for me in the past.

Edit: New carpet, padding, and sometimes furniture can give off an odor that to people is the "new stuff smell", to a cat... it's a place to pee.

I've had great luck with regular vinegar. It stinks for a while but just totally douse the area and let it dry naturally. Seems to work and you don't have to worry about the animals getting hurt by it.

When my little guys were puppies, Emma peed on my dining room floor.I tried a spray-on by Hartz called pet urine remover from Petsmart. I don't know what's in it, but following the vet's advice, I sprayed it on the carpet, and after it dried, put several large books around the spot. Emma has never gone back to that spot (or peed on the floor again). Stop here for short version.

Vet's reason: once an animal has used a spot to relieve themselves, they will return unless you do something to prevent them. Hence the big books. Emma could never return to the same spot. Hovever I made the room inaccessible to her so she could not get back in. She was quickly housebroken afterwards.

I bought Urine Off incase I needed it after adopting Louise. Louise has never peed in the house so I have never used it but I was told it works really well. The Urine Off that I have is for dogs but you can get it for cats too. I hope Izzy gets the idea that the chair is not the place to spray.
