I attend TailWaggers playhouse off of Girls School Rd. They give me medicine at no extra charge when I need it.Mommy packs me food and treats along with my own bedding and toys when I go to spend the night. I also go to daycare there every day and I come home very exhausted because we play all day long.
As for Molly, if they have the money, they want to go to Castleton, and they want her spoiled rotten while they're gone, then Best Friends on 82nd and Bash is the way to go. Mom has had to kennel me twice in the two months I've been here. I went there first. They give you a complete tour beforehand if you want. It's completely indoor. Dogs have a "two room suite", on to sleep in and a bathroom. If you want them to have group playtime or walks, those are all extras that you pay for. There are even pamper packages that you can get. Treat baskets delivered to their suite at night, even bedtime stories and tucking in. They play music all the time, although softer at night, for dogs like me that suffer from separation anxiety. We liked it, but Mom wanted me to be able to go outside as part of the deal and not have to be cooped up all day. She has a friend that uses Camp Chenney Creek at 106th between Hague and Allisonville Road. We really liked it there. As for Mario, you could ask at both places how they deal with the shots (both kennels asked Mom up front if I had any medical conditions that required special treatment, but since I don't she didn't ask anymore questions). Depending on what they say, you could use them, or call your vet like BC mentioned. Let us know how it goes! Good luck!
Roman, you will probably find it difficult to find a kennel that boards diabetic dogs. There are two reasons for this. One, the insulin shot needs to be given as close to 12 hours apart as possible. At many kennels, there aren't always trained employees around at 12 hour intervals. But the main reason why it can be difficult is the activity level at kennels, especially in the summer. Dogs are much more active at kennels than they typically are at home, especially in the summer when there are more dogs boarding. Because of the increased activity level, it can throw off the typical insulin level given to a dog based on normal activity levels. I would try to find either a reputable trained home petsitter or try to find a vet that can board your Uncle Mario. That would really be the safest way to go.
Thank you for all of your posts everyone!!!! Keep 'em comin' if you have a suggestion!!!
For anyone who may run across this post in their search for a kennel, I got a message from someone who said that Zionsville Country Kennel will take dogs like Mario who need special medication and they don't charge extra for giving the shots.
If you're looking for a terific and reputable kennel, you can check out Sleepy Hollow Pet Ranch. They advertise here in IndyPaws. Their website is www.sleepyhollowpetranch.com. My mom and dad manage the place, and love taking care of furry kids whose parents are away on trips! They are full for the 4th of July holiday but have a few opening shortly before and after. Most kennels are full or mostly full for the 4th. I would suggest calling ahead, and SOON, for any kennels or home petsitters around any holiday.
My mom and I highly recommend Good Dog Hotel and Spa in Broad Ripple. It is super nice and super clean. You should at least visit and take a tour. You will be impressed I think. They also have all kinds of extras you can add on. Their website is is www.gooddoghotel.com
