This is how much I worry...

Debbie on Behavior - Thu, September 11 2008

Our neighbors behind us, with whom we are very close, have a sweet beagle/rottie mix named Tazzie. My daughter and I have dog sat for her since she was a puppy and love her to pieces. She's 4 years old and has an invisible fence which she stays in and LOVES to be at the family cabin when they go. We've been there several times and she has free reign of the land. She even rides shotgun on the gator! Too funny.

Anyway, we hadn't heard Tazzie outside barking lately nor had we seen her roaming around the yard. I didn't worry too much until my next door neighbor commented on not hearing/seeing her either. I started to worry that something had happened to her. I let it go for a week all the while looking through the trees for a glimpse of her to easy my mind.

Finally, yesterday I got almost panicked about not seeing her around so I called and their teenage son answered. I didn't want to ask him if Tazzie was ok in case she wasn't! I didn't want to upset him so I asked him to have his mom call me when she had a minute. Minutes go by and I thought I was going to die! I called my neighbors cell phone and said, "Hi! Is Tazzie ok?" She went into "WHY?!" Where is she?" (Of course I put HER in to panic mode...) I said I hoped she was at home and that I was so worried about not having seen her....

Yes, Tazzie is fine and at home. Turns out that hubby has been working from home, so Tazzie is inside more hanging out with dad.

*whew* I'm going over there this evening and give Tazzie a big hug and kiss.

And I wonder why I have heartburn.

It's really nice of you to be concerned about your neighbor's dog. I was the same way last night on our evening walk. Last summer I saw this older lady walk by the house every evening with her dog. This summer I never saw her. On our way home I saw her. I went over and told her how wonderful it was to see her walking her dog. I told her that I was afraid that her best little friend had passed away. I guess the dog is now telling her where she wants to go and that is walking down to Marsh.
My husband delivered her mail when he was a mailman and when people see him, they are so surprised and happy to know that the lady who walks the beagle is the old mailman's wife.

That's what good neighbors are for! There are only 4 families on my road, but 3 of us have multiple dogs so we are always watching out for each others dogs. So I TOTALLY understand about worrying, I would do the same if I didn't see Boner and Buddy, the next door neighbor's boxers, everyday.

Mom says every neighborhood has a crazy lady.:) Your neighbors are blessed to have someone who cares and looks out for them.

I actually did the same thing a while ago. Our neighbors down the street have two dogs - one is an old crotchety white german shepherd and the other is a big goofy young black dog. I hadn't seen the black dog in a while, and worried that maybe something had happened so i asked the neighbor about him.

I'm sure I came off as nosey, but they just told me they've taken to walking them separate as the black dog likes to take longer walks and is friendly (so they like to stop and introduce him to people/dogs) while the white dog isn't and can't walk very far anymore :) I felt better even if they did think i was nosey!

I work in a big old house on Delaware Street, and ever since I began working there, I would see this old man and his dog walking every day-----didn't matter if it was raining or snowing, there they were.

This year though, I haven't seen either of them, and I miss them. I like to think that they both moved together to some place really nice.

now you KNOW that you are not alone on this topic, Debbie. Mama M and Connie would be pounding on their door too! Although I can't say that others of us won't be too far behind!

Oh you crack me UP!

I'm sure I'd do the same thing, though!

Dog owners watch out for each other, no doubt about it. Last night Charlie & I went out for our evening stroll, and I spotted a neighbor's Schnauzer nearby-- turns out the dog was loose! So I pulled Charlie over to the owner's house to see what was going on, and the sliding glass door was open! By then the Schnauzer had come home & was standing on the front steps, waiting to be let in. Since this dog had jumped Charlie before, I didn't feel that I could approach the dog while Charlie was still with me, so there I was in the middle of the street yelling at the top of my lungs "Stella! Stella's mom! Kelly! Stella's outside! On the front steps!"

Thankfully Charlie's girlfriend Sophie & her mom came down the street to see what all the ruckus was about-- and so I took Sophie's reins while her mom led Stella the Schnauzer around to the sliding glass door- and in the house Stella went! The slider was closed behind her so she couldn't get out again- and wouldn't you know it, the owners drove up to their house right then so we got to tell them about Stella's adventure! *whew* I would have a heart attack if I found out Charlie was loose! Makes me light-headed just thinking about it.
